Bloodlines don't lie. His dad and uncle Thomas Jones were studs
Played against them both in HS...small Single-A, Region D (Div 2) Virginia HS ball. Lonesome Pine District with the likes of Coeburn (my alma mater), Appalachia, John I Burton (Norton), Powell Valley (Big Stone Gap, where Thomas/Julius played), Clintwood, Pound, JJ Kelly (Wise). Appalachia/Powell Valley were neighboring towns, and both powerhouses in small school Southwest VA HSFB. They were both annual threats to win state.
Thomas was the better all-around RB. Better vision, blocking, tough to bring down. Top end speed was above average, but not elite. He is still the career rushing king at UVA with 3,998 yards, ahead of Tiki Barber and Terry Kirby.
Julius, on the other hand - top end elite speed. No surprise that Julius Jr. has gotten some of those genetics. Julius has 3 of the top 10 single game rushing yards in a game records at ND. He's tied with Autry Denson for the 6th highest rushing yards in a season. He's the only ND RB all time to have 3 games of 200+ yards in his career. He's 6th all time in career rushing yards. He's 3rd on their all-time KR/PR combined yardage list all time...ahead of Tim Brown and Rocket Ismail. (I took all of this off of ND's records listed in their 2025 football program I found a PDF for:

Thomas definitely had a better NFL career, but Julius was **** good as well. Not too bad for two dudes from lil ole Big Stone Gap, VA.
And don't get me started on their uncle Edd Clark, who went to Purdue but flunked out, before eventually dying saving 2 kids from drowing in '86. He was a beast. Good story/background on their family and history
here.
