Garden City C.C. (Kan.) LB D’Vonta Derricott (6-1, 235) is currently a Kansas State commitment, but the Miami Hurricanes have recently come into the picture and made things interesting.

“One of their assistants had hit me up on Facebook and were talking about me and my teammate Errol Clarke and then Coach Barrow called my coach and told him I had an offer,” said Derricott.

What did the offer mean to Derricott?

“It was fun because Miami is my favorite school. They have great players and linebackers come out of there. I grew up a Miami fan.”

The offer is intriguing to Derricott because of his background as a Canes fan.

“At first, it was just the college, but as I started to get older and learned about football, they were my favorite team. They won all the time and I watch the 30 for 30 all the time because of the style they play with.”

Derricott is planning to visit Miami “sometime in January”.

“I just want to be in the stadium and see how the environment is because I’ve never been out there before.”

The linebacker originally from Richmond, Virginia says that a good Miami visit could change his recruitment around in a major way.

“If I took the trip to Miami and like it, I would probably decommit (from Kansas State).”

Derricott feels like his versatility and athletic ability separates him as a prospect.

“I can cover, I can come down and hit. I feel like there’s nothing I can’t do. I’m about 6-feet, 6-1, but my speed is in the low 4.4s so I can shoot the gaps and sideline-to-sideline.”

Although a lot of people see the Junior College route as a bad situation, Derricott does not see it that way.

“I didn’t have the grades to go straight to D-1 so JUCO is really the last option if you want to play football. I think JUCO is a good experience because you can get bigger schools looking at you.”

You tell me we can bring in a kid at the linebacker position that can run sideline to sideline without looking like he tied his feet together and took a horse tranquilizer before the play, sign me the **** up.
