JR15 Misses and a Few Bonus Pics

Some of these are comical lol. Jarren can't just press the X button and throw the ball 50 yards in the air with a guy in his face and hit the receiver in stride.

I bet you could take similar screenshots of almost every football game played by any team all year.

Yeah, a few of the examples involved a receiver 50 yards downfield.

“He’s open!!” doesn’t work so well then

I agree, but I don't think this game is a good platform for deciding if Williams has "it" or not. If we'd opened against Furman, he probably throws 6 TDs and 350 yards, and we'd think he was the 2nd coming of Bernie Kosar. That would be a bad game to jump to a conclusion from as well. As it is, I saw a QB who was accurate and too cautious, which, as far as negatives go, is a preferable trait for a defense-oriented team than reckless.

If Davis TD not called back on BS call, or Thomas catches the TD pass right on the money that even Diaz says should have been caught, or Thomas doesn't put ball on ground on punt return, we win the game and are singing the praise of the young QB who kept Miami in the game and never forced a risky throw to give the opponent a short field. Unfortunately the team needed Williams to put the team on his shoulders. Whether you think that's a fair ask for the kid is up to you. Personally, I expect the team to carry the QB in his first start (especially the TEs who are mismatches and the WR with NFL aspirations) , not the other way around.
Good points made.

I'll tell you one thing. The staff should feel real lucky the young man wasn't severely hurt the other night. I feel solid knowing who is behind him in case he did get hurt but not making adjustments to get more protection out there. Was just a poor move imo.

We escaped without him getting hurt. I'm wanting to see his mental side. If the OL bleeding isn't solved.

It appears Jarren is looking at the end zone (my guess is that JT4 is the primary receiver there but I can't see the full field). 2nd down is usually the down where you want to take a shot at the end zone. Miami has 1 TO and has to score a TD that drive. If he hits #2, maybe he picks up 1st or he gets stopped short and the clock runs, either way have to call TO or clock it.

This is one where a snapshot might not tell the whole story. You see lack of vision. It could be that or just indecisiveness. Williams might have seen #2 perfectly fine, but he was trying to hit endzone on 2nd down and locked into the receiver. That still frame could be him waiting for his primary to get open in the end zone.

If you are right and he doesn't see the field, it's worrisome. If I am right and he was waiting for his primary read because he was trying to win the game in one pass, then it's less worrisome as he is literally starting a college football game for the 1st time in his career. He can learn to manage game situations better and take what the defense is giving him.

Agree. These still shots are helpful, but they don’t tell the whole story.

You will never have forever back there. A clean pocket and an open receiver needs to be hit. Obviously it's just his first game so I'm not going to dog Jarren. He made some good throws but you don't have to make excuses for him either. He has to see that and make that throw in that situation. You can't ask the best OL to block for 10 seconds. The ball has to come out.

I'll say this for him, he showed a lot of toughness that game. Maybe a good percentage of the hits were his own fault for being too cautious,
but he picked himself up and went right back at it. Teammates respect that. If you look at the Urban Meyer QB philosophy, toughness is one of the main traits he looks for.

Competitiveness- yes
Toughness- yes
Leadership- yes
Football IQ- TBD
Ability to extend the play- TBD

Next game will tell us a lot about the last 2 traits.

I don't fault the kid for tucking the ball away given that it was drilled into him that he not turn the ball over. Like kids, they take it to an extreme. He had plenty of opportunities to throw the ball away or run or even make a dynamic play. I believe the mistakes he made in this game were better than throwing interceptions, which would have eroded his confidence and the team's confidence in him. here are some plays that he left on the field.

In this play, he had heavy pressure and dumped it off to Dallas, but had JT4 open already.

On this play he has pressure but if he anticipates just a little bit he can put the ball in the endzone to JT4 since he's turned around his defender.

This bonus pic shows how the we failed to adjust to the motion by No. 1 and Florida created a huge mismatch that lead to the touchdown.

Here, near the goal line, he has the middle of the field open and Jordan moving into the open space, but JR15 threw it behind him for a reception but little YAC.

this is a roll out to the right and while faint you can see JT4 (i think) open by a mile.

this is what LuCane said earlier in the week, get pressure on Franks in his face and he'll disintegrate. Ford pressures Frank and although the two Florida receivers are open, Franks overthrows them and Carter gets the pick.

Another rollout play and our receiver is behind the defender.

And on the final series, i believe he rolls to the right again but had Osborn open right in the middle of the field for an 8-10 yard play.

He'll grow up fast in the next two weeks.
Enos was not happy with those open opportunities missed but JW gets a pass on this game. Hope he studies the film and really let it sink in his heart how easier it could have been if he was able to come up with the right read.

He probably was mad at the OL and for good reason but after further review he will see that some of those sacks and pressured situation by FL DF was a little on him as well.

2 weeks to get it fixed. I believe we smoke NC just off of now realizing the multiple missed opportunities on OF against a so-called stout Gator DF.

JW make those reads we blow out the Gates.

You might have a good point. But I think JW will have to take a few more shots down field after how wide open JT been in this game.

Man Enos could have done better at chipping the ends ,but i can only imagine how loud he was yelling cause I was the whole game. PULL THE TRIGGER SON!

Now you know why Enos was tough on Jarren during his presser. Jarren may have shown toughness and did complete 63 percent of his passes but left a lot of big plays out on the field.

Best pocket Jarren had all game. WR is running an In route against SOFT zone. Jarren took a sack. 34 seconds left.

This dude does not see the field well.

One last thing about snapshots being open to interpretation- if he throws to #2 there as shown, there will be a chorus of qb "gurus" complaining that he didn't show enough patience because he had a clean pocket and plenty of time to wait for the receiver in the endzone to try and get open. No need to rush a throw to his 3rd read and be forced to call a TO when he could have scored 6. Again, I suspect he got caught in between and indecisiveness cost him there. It's good to be patient but the egg timer has to go off in his head and he needs to realize after about five seconds that he has to come off his primary read. Game experience is the best teacher.

I'll take that bet....JT4 is our playmaker and when you can't see how often he's open, you have a problem. This is D1 football, you have to see the open WRs, period.

Good points too. I think Williams is pretty tough mentally. I expect Enos to open up UNC with a plan to get him settled and trusting his OL. On the other side I Hope Barry, Enos and Manny get the OL believing they can be successful very early on. That’s going to be so important.

Yeah on some plays he can’t just hit the x button and throw it 50 yards. But on some he also shouldn’t be waiting until long after the wr has made his cut before he throws the ball. Know the routes and reads and release the ball to the open wr as or before he’s making his cut.

Look it’s his first game of his career starting vs a great corner duo and front 7. The game is going to slow down tremendously for Jarren. Even with some misses on the field I’m still encouraged with his play. People wouldn’t have complained about enos playcalling if we hit a few of these throws honestly because it obviously was plays to be had and everyone sees that looking at the skycam. We got things to work on but we are going to be more than fine

This is why I’m more encouraged with this team and not sulking over the loss.

Jarren has to make these plays? He won the starting job because he was making these plays at practice.

But I am frustrated because all over the country since Andre Johnson went to the league (and even retired from the league) you see QB glued on to their top WR for better or for worst, even forcing bad throws to give their guy a chance. But yet at Miami our QB refuses to be all in on our top guy. Priority 1 is get Jeff Thomas the dang ball.

I’m sitting here thinking “ok you know what I was wrong I thought JT4 would cook UF DBs, But I guess UF DBs are pretty legit...”**** no! They got owned we just couldn’t get the ball to him.

Now for Jeff he’s got to stay mentally engaged in the game. No excuses but man we left so many points on the field. This game should have been a 30-13 win.

"this dude does not see the field well" combined with mental mistakes, eating the ball for sacks unnecessarily, not throwing out (afraid of turnover and loss of starting job"?") does not bode well...

OL not going to improve that much or faster, thankfully next opponents will have less stellar or able defenders on the attack.

Tate too short to scan the field and less accurate on the zip, Perry just off the mission at times, and our QB of the Future JW maybe gets Game-1 "good try guy almost did it" but he didn't win the job to bring us that. What a fine mess we have here Ollie. This could be a lonnnnnng year (I hope not.)
Oh come on now. All of those things about Jarren that you point out in your "sky is falling" post are what can typically be expected of a RS FRESHMAN QB not just starting his first game, but getting his first real game experience of any sort in his career, in a primetime rivalry game against a good, aggressive defense. Given all of that, the kid showed great ability and promise. That first game probably felt like everything was moving 100 mph around him. Give him a little time to get comfortable, with more experience. The game will slow down for him. If later this season he looks the same, then yes, it's something to worry about. From what we saw Saturday night, this kid has potential to a very good QB.

First start and no time- can't expect him to see the whole field every play. Not realistic.
