He's 16 he'll grow some more lol
Oh you right, he is 6-1 215 now, he will be a game changing 6-3 235.
Why do you assume he'll only gain 20lbs by the time he's 18-19?
Maybe he gets to 250, doesn't really matter. The point is I don't think use of this type of athlete has a place in this scheme short of devoting an olb to full time rush, which I guess they might. I am not disputing his athleticism, or his potential to be incredibly productive. But in this scheme DE's have to set the edge, and OLB need to be able to cover. I don't think he can get big enough to set the edge, and I think evidence that he can cover remains to be seen.
He definitely has the athleticism to be in coverage.
At the Fire north and south 7v7 tryouts, he was locking down wr's in 1v1s and in 7v7. This is without ever being coached to cover. The kid is fast and can plant and turn his hips. Only 16 and he's running a 4.5 laser at 6'2 220.
Closest thing I've seen to Ryan Shazier. Shazier played for the SFE and was the fastest and one of the better player's on the team and all he did was rush the passer as an undersized DE in Hs.
Zone coverage for underneath players is easy (I know lol). OLBs just run underneath the
#1 receiver. He's definitely talented enough and he's receiving very good coaching from Trujillo at Columbus. All of the defensive players that have come out of Columbus have played as freshman and have done well for their respective programs. Even kids who have walked on like Tommy Heffernan (cane legacy), who started at UNC as a MLB.
