Josh Pate Miami talk 10/20

Essentially said we can be either version of LSU, 2019 with a great offense and serviceable defense (if we figure **** out) or 2023 LSU, waste a Heisman QB season because we can't stop anything.

Did he explain how, with the current DB roster, Miami can suddenly have the 2019 LSU defense?

Where is Mario gonna find the equivalence of Derek stingley, Kristian Fulton, Patrick Queen, Grant delpit.. :ibis-roflmao-sm3:

Like cmon we have closed eyes #7, #19 off the racks store who cant cover, needs 10 yards cushion and cant tackle, #25 is I guess a bad safety from vandy playing even worse at corner for us, #0 is walk on off a bad defense who was carried by elite offense so I guess he knows how to play that role..

He's not wrong, it really could go dramatically in either direction. The one thing this defense has going for it is the talent on the defensive line. That still gives me some semblance of hope down the stretch for at least a moderate improvement from sucking open a$$ to somewhere just south of average.

Just south of average is all this team needs to make a really memorable season.

Lsu dbs where the strength of that defense. Stingley, fulton, delpit all start in the nfl…Im not sure any of our guys get drafted, dp2 film at nickel is hurting his stock alot

No doubt....but there is also no debate that our defensive line is better than that LSU team's D line.

Guidry needs to adjust his scheme to our talent, or in the case of the secondary, a lack thereof.

Agreed our dline is better

About guidry ill say the secondary problems with guys getting beat I don’t blame it all on him but i think play callers are one step ahead of him right now

I disagree a little with your last sentence. I've rewatched the last 3 games now several times and I feel like most of the explosives are coming via straight up blown coverages. We run a **** of a lot of cover 4 and I just don't feel like our kids are catching on to the matching principles which leads to receivers running free. When we're not running cover 4 we're blitzing and with this team we honestly should only be blitzing sporadically, as a change up. Let that front 4 get home and drop 7 in coverage.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think we need to dumb down and simplify the D. Let the D line do the heavy lifting and emphasize limiting the big plays. To me when you blitz you're removing an asset from an area of weakness (our back 7) and just trying to add to an area where we already have a relative strength.

I think thats apart of it for sure but when teams know your tendencies, they can put your players in conflict more often. Thats what i mean, im not saying players aren’t blowing assignments but when it happens at this rate it is usually because someone is getting out coached.

Its like chess, ill make a move or use a formation or coverage to get you to react the way i want. For every bad defense you will find players blowing assignments, even the ones with talent but it happening consistently in the same ways i take some blame off of the players.

Like kam and james would have their gamble blown coverages but right now the blown assignments are pure like bro wtf are we doing? I have to rewatch but earlier in the year i saw alot of communication but now it looks like that has fallen off some. We dont look prepared enough and even last year teams have exploited the same things in acc play

I was trying to think who this team compares to. Flo compares it to last years 2023 FSU, nah I don't see it. FSU was pretty solid on both sides. LSU 2023 team is the perfect comparison. They ended up 9-3 but they had a tougher schedule then us. In the 2023 ACC, they would have been the 2nd best team in the conference. Explosive offense, Heisman QB and a terrible defense. Really fun team to watch, that's 100 percent us.
