Josh Ellison 2020 JUCO DT is Player UM Should Evaluate

Didn’t realize we were hurting for DTs.

Unless Moise moves to OL it makes no sense. With him and Roberts, who’s a swing guy, we are 4 deep at DT with needs at DB, WR and OL but low scholarships left.

If the team takes more defensive tackles then it means guys are leaving or the staff is down on a lot of players. For 2020

Ford
Silvera
Miller
Martin (shouldn’t be counted but he’s still here)
3 Redshirt Freshmen

Moise
Roberts

I think the 8-10 range is ideal for this team. 6 is risky, 12 is overkill. Bigger defensive ends like Rousseau and Patchan are probably seeing some plays at DT next year too. At some point you are just collecting guys who lose motivation or transfer out for playing time.

Personally if the team is going to get offside with roster composition I’d rather have the team stockpile 1-2 big tall raw athletes every class with basketball and wrestling backgrounds who 3 years from now could hopefully play offensive tackle.

lol we have like 57 DT’s on the roster, why do we need more?

Stack the big boys when you can, games are won in the trenches. We should be able to pressure the QB with just 4 down lineman and not have to bring exotic blitzes which we get burned on about 20% of the time with game changing plays.

UM is best when we can have a 8 man rotation at DT pushing the pocket on every play. Even with a quick passing game disruptive DT'S can make QB'S drop thier eyes because they know they are going to get hit an then have that 300lbs fall on them. An by 5th or 6th time of this type of treatment QB's start making business decisions.
