2027 Jordan Karhoff 4* TE from Columbus, OH (St. Francis de Sales HS)

I’m close to moving my prediction to Virginia Tech for four-star tight end Jordan Karhoff. He looked close to committing to Miami but has put the pause on that. The Hokies are a big reason why and are grabbing momentum.

D$ mentioned this on the bank. They like Karhoff however they are not in a rush to take a second tight end and would rather flip Karhoff late or evaluate senior film to see who to target as the second TE.

VTech sure is popping up in a lot of our recruiting battles lately. They definitely are recruiting different players since Franklin got there.

You think Karhoff is mediocre?

I think all nearly all TEs are a compromise and you are better off having a specialist at either receiving or blocking. There is one that comes along every few years who is talented enough to create a real matchup advantage (for example, an elite TE who runs and catches as well as a top WR, but forces a defense to adjust because he's too fast for a LB and too big for a DB).

247 has Karhoff rated as the #19 TE in the country. Some places have him higher so I fair to make the argument he's better than that, but IMO he's the classic TE tweener. He’s not fast enough to be a Top 5 WR-hybrid, and he’s not big enough to be a Top 5 blocker.

I think good TEs (don’t have to be close to elite ) can be X factors in high school football because in HS there will be a lot of mismatches. A kinda fast tall TE makes life tough on a DC who might be lucky to have a couple of d3 level players on his roster. But at the P4 level? Defenses are too good for tweener TEs.

That said- full disclosure I don’t know much about Karhoff other than what ChatGPT tells me. Never watched his film. And from what I read, Alex Bauman played better competition and had considerably better stats in HS than Karhoff. Has Bauman really elevated the team? Also, wouldn’t be surprised if a team wants Karhoff as a DE instead of a TE. He does offer player flexibility and I am not going to boo if Cristobal gets him, but IMO he is not a critical player for this class.

A whole essay just to say I used ChatGPT and never watched his film.

Alright man I’ll let you do you.

Correct. I haven’t watched Karhoff. That’s why I told you I used chatGPT. Not going to be a phony and pretend like I studied him closely. Feel free to explain why you believe he’s an elite TE who creates significant mismatches. Is he an especially polished route runner? He blocks better than a 6th OL? What am I missing?

Nothing against him I simply don’t see much value in most TEs, especially in Dawsons offense. Dawsons offense is an evolved Air Raid, and I subscribe to the late great Mike Leachs views on TEs.

Bummer. Kid is ideally what you want from a blue chip TE. Must be something we don’t understand as fans for this to make sense.

Probably VT offered more. We were being told that this one was close for the last couple of weeks to right around when Keys committed.
