John Ruiz creates his own sports agency.

Would assume John Ruiz and his merry band of lawyers worked through, talked through and thought through all of this before going through the effort and expense of launching a sports law firm.
I don’t think you become a billionaire without proper planning with anything dealing with rules regulations and money

The simplest answer is often the right answer.

Ruiz, while clearly very capable and accomplished, has a high bar to keep perception and actual wrong doing away fron the program....

NOW....if he's calculated all the rules are going out the window in the futyre anyways...brilliant trailblazer.....

Not following your logic here.

Having the appropriate perception is nice, but sometimes that can’t be controlled, but what can be controlled is actually running a tight ship and crossing your t’s and dotting your i’s, which in this case, unless he’s a complete idiot, I’m sure he’s going to do, because he must do it.

Nothing is going to change the perception, there’s going to be people running their pieholes about it, that’s not gonna change, I mean you yourself already compared him to Shapiro and you are a canes fan.

What do you think our rivals are going to hit on thousands of times? Let’s not worry about it.

I compared the situation thematically to Shapiro, not a 1:1 with Ruiz as a person, and that I think, is appropriate.

Perception often becomes reality, and this could be a case of it. With that said, his politely combative nature of daring the NCAA to challenge him should give us some hope that he feels he'll ring them legally if they try anything because we all know what a wide pass those Indianapolis fuqtards have given our Canes over the years.

Again, maybe he thinks we are quickly heded to an era of little/no regulation of D1P5 so he is a first mover of vertically integrating a service for clients.

Good on him so long as it translates to Ws for our Canes.

I'm not knocking him, but he's a strange guy. Most big time boosters I would say are. Really loves the spotlight, that's for sure. Hope it works out for self serving purposes of course. Popular opinion or not, I usually share mine.

I know very few rich people who hide being rich.

In Ruiz instance, its a marketing tool and should be viewed as that.

I’m not a fan of that type.

Curious question...........would John Ruiz also have on his payroll, agents, or would the agents be independent contractors working with him to sign up players?.

If this is correct, he would have for College.......... the NIL deal, the agent, and the Sports Agency representation all wrapped up for his College division and the Professional Representation for the NFL players, in his Pro Division..

Lots of conflict of interest and double dipping here, but nothing is a NO until the guardrails and regs/rules are in place for NIL and the College athletes from the NCAA.

John wants to be the Wal Mart or Target of College Sports.......
Own the manufacturing Company, make the product, own the transporting Company, own the warehouse, own the Distribution Network, own the Stores, and own the flow from Manufacturer to consumer.

From High School athlete to Professional NFL player..............and oh yes he also wants a Stadium too at Tropical Park, or wherever he can find the best deal.
Busy guy.

Well said.

Actually, a lot of very wealthy people don't advertise their wealth. The phrase "money talks, wealth whispers" comes to mind. I work in the financial services game, and I have some clients that are extremely wealthy, you wouldn't know it from how they approach things. Keep in mind, there are a lot of people that should be on the Forbes list, that aren't, because they opt out.

For someone like Ruiz, he has to market his wealth because it's a huge part of who he is. It's the same reason why Trump does it. Their wealth is part of their brand, it buys them credibility. Compare that to some of my clients, who are 3rd or 4th generation wealth. They don't give a crap about credibility.

People in here are missing the distinction between an agency and a law firm. The conflict of interest rules applicable to a lawyer are significantly greater in scope and more complex. I think this is some vanity play for his son. I can guarantee you he will not, as some suggest, be representing an athlete through this “law firm” while sitting on the other side of the table and signing endorsement deals for his company with that same athlete.

I guess it differs from where you start defining a rich person.

In Germany, you count as the top 1% of earners if you make 150k a year before taxes.

Obviously its different from someone who is rich and needs to demonstrate it because its his number one marketimg value, while others have been rich for generations and they don't want to show it for the sake of supporting their wealth.
