John Meredith 5* CB from Fort Worth, TX (North Crowley HS) Commits to Texas

The vast majority of P4, and about a third of G6, football-only athletes enroll early at their school; bypassing half of their senior year of high school.

Now that this practice has been built-in to the culture, kids get out in front of this issue and start taking the dual enrollment classes necessary, in order to EE, when they are still underclassmen.

Before the appeal decision was released, the initial ineligibility ruling came down on June 13th, set forth a few options for Meredith: transfer to a school out of state, go back to his old HS to play football, stay at his new high school without participating in football — only for one semester mind you; or, immediately start on the 5 to 8 week online courses so that he reclassify to the 2026 class before fall semester starts.

Many of the online courses aren’t even collectively structured; meaning, he can go at his own pace to turn in the assignments, do the readings, take the quizzes and tests and midterms, etc.

TLDR: If he wasn’t already in a position to enroll early at Texas in January, reclassifying would have been much more challenging. But since he was, he only needed to finish one semester worth in work when he has ample free-time because it’s the summer.

But how did this happen?

Usually with reclassifications, you alter your coursework during your sophomore and junior seasons. But after the UIL denied Meredith’s eligibility at North Crowley for his senior year, the elite prospect was stuck. He could’ve returned to Euless Trinity or moved to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL.

But there was another idea; graduate early.

“The district worked with the University of Texas,” sources told Inside Texas. “(District) helped tremendously. He’s currently in a couple online courses.”

We don’t have a CB that can run with anyone on the roster. We have some good CBs but not ones that can stay in phase against speedsters. Wright has the skill set to do that and more.

That WR room didn’t have the depth that this year’s CB does…

We needed Mali…

I’d be shocked if we had a Freshman start or get significant playing time in this year’s CB room…

Guess we’ll see…

We didn’t have one proven WR coming in into this season our top leading recievers all left
Restrepo over 1100 yds
George 752 yds
Horton 616 yds
Arroyo over 500 yds
Brown over 500 yds
We lost all our production from last season Mali came in took the slot position from ray joseph who had no production in 2 years good thing he reclassified because we would of not won 9 games without Mali, there no comparison with this year’s cb room coming into the season with last years WR coming into the season

I like Meredith. The money will be there for his four years, interested see if their on field success warrants his staying for them.

I don’t know about that right there. Xavier Lucas can run with anyone in the country. Might want to rethink that comment.

Someone at Texas said we could use another CB. Someone else said ok I’ll call my buddy in Ft Worth and get one.

There's NO comparison between last years WR room (that Mali walked into) and this years CB room that Donte would be walking into...

I be missing the jokes sometimes so excuse me, texas got like 6 five stars in that room now and still gonna get cooked lol.. alot of these kids is setup to enroll early nowadays and with online classes and internet/Viju anything is possible

Its truly a beautiful thing man, even though america as a whole entire student population cant read when graduating but all our ballers got grades and graduating early, man back in day these boys was struggling.. lol (just jokes, a lil)

Mind you they actually do get ALOT of help and tutors and such (pre covid I had a tutoring company and legendary coaches like Ice took alot of things from college level and implemented for kids), they are much more prepared the day they step even into 8th grade..
