Joe yearby sophmore highlight

Look, if Kehoe had done his job for the last 3 years or so, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Yearby is who he is - a SOLID back, who won't take it 80 yards, but WILL do some real damage as the total package of running/blocking/receiving if given a decent OL. If he had a good OL, he would be getting tons of burn in the media.

Duke had to put on weight. You cant be a successful RB at 185 in the NFL. No matter if you are an every down or 3rd down back, you have to be able to take the punishment.

His cuts to make people miss are great. Unfortunately there's just no burst out of those cuts. He just can't pull away from anyone. I hope he sheds a couple pounds, regains a little speed & quickness, and is used in change of pace role vs. an every down back.
Gain what speed back ? Yearby never had elite speed if you have watched him from highschool. He's ALWAYS a been a quicker than fast guy period... The added weight helped his game a lot...

I know Yearby will never be fast, but I'd like to see him play at a weight where he's at his maximum speed & quickness. Probably around 195 vs. the 202 he's listed at.

His game is quickness, so I don't see what gaining extra weight so he can take more of a pounding does, since he shouldn't be an every down back. With Gus & Homer in the backfield this year, there's probably going to be less carries for Yearby, so I think losing some weight will make him more effective in the carries he does get.

I think the same with Duke Johnson. He gained weight his Junior year because he did have to be an every down back for us, and had to take some punishment. He kept that weight on in the pros and it's affected his speed & quickness. He's not an every down NFL back, so he should shed some weight now and regain some of that speed & quickness.

Kid could stand to lose 10 pounds in my opinion. He has amazing cuts, good vision, and good hands. But cannot out run angles for what could be big plays. He is a good back. He will not be a pro in my opinion. He may carve out a few years as a third down back somewhere, but I do not see him having a long career with his speed. I hope he stays for his degree, he will need it sooner than he may think. Great guy, great cane, wish for nothing but the best for him.

Duke had to put on weight from 185, but he's listed at 210. That's too big for his frame. He doesn't need to bulk up to be an every down back in the NFL, because he isn't one. He needs to drop down to that 200-205 lb. range.

Andre Ellington, Gio Bernard, Danny Woodhead, Justin Forsett, Devonta Freeman, Justin Forsett - all play at the 5'9" 200 lb. range, and all get injured when they tried to carry the load.

Duke will become the explosive 3rd down change of pace RB he's meant to be if he sheds a couple lbs.

At his freshman weight he went down easily and never broke any tackles. since he added weight he's able to break more tackle and still retained his quick feet.

Duke will be like Brian Westbrook in the league IMO

Duke did the same thing his sophomore year relax
