Joe Echevarria on Pat McAfee

Echevarria is going to turn Miami into a juggernaut. Not just in athletics, but as an academic institution, too. That is a smart man with a plan.
Seems to understand it benefits the school if athletics are winning. It’s free publicity. It’s a symbiotic relationship. Wanting a “Miami person” fits perfectly in his role.

For the president to admit the U brand was built on athletics is so refreshing to hear
Well the actual U logo was created by the athletic department and eventually adopted through everything, including the medical system

I wasn't a fan when the "U" Logo was first rolled out! I mean, there were hundreds of "U"niversities throughout the nation.

I was hoping for something more unique to Miami, like the Hurricane Flags. Problem with using the flags was they were Red and Black which clashed with our school colors of Orange and Green.

He makes a great point about collective bargaining needed for the players. A lot of people will resist that, but I agree that you cannot go forward without CBA.

A collective bargaining agreement allows the schools of conferences in the players to agree on how to manage the transfer portal, NIL, and revenue sharing with the athletes fairly across the board.
Collective bargaining is the ONLY way to have some enforceable limits on NIL and the transfer portal because then courts will say to players, ‘you were represented at the bargaining table and you made this deal’. Without that, every player can go to a court and say, ‘I never agreed to this and it is unfair to me’. And because denying a transfer, or extra year of eligibility, or NIL limit, will have irreparable harm on the player and not the university, the player will continue to win injunctions.

Even the NCAA is finally endorsing the need for collective bargaining, of course after fighting against any and all rights for players for 100 years.
