I believe this was an already shared philosophy that Manny (and new DC Baker) had prior to his meeting with JJ. I recall Baker making a similar statement of willing to go smaller in some spots if player was "fast twitch" or something like that. This may have been a new approach that JJ popularized back in the 80's, but it's been like almost 30 years. This is hardly some new revelation to the game that defensive coaches never have heard about or considered.

given JJ's success at all levels and how much NFL & college people still consult with him, i am always left wondering why UM did not consult him over past 10+ years . His comments on Diaz seem to reflect that he was involved in some form with the decision ? Would have liked to seen him as our AD during Shannon, Golden Richt era....
also where program would be with his influence as part of Senior mgmt.

Doubt he’s interested in Mgmt. He did also offer to help golden out w the D. Golden refused.

JJ is the one that talked him into the FSU takeover....That was flat out JJ big ball hanging and if Manny listens to him we will be in great shape going forward.Manny needs to learn OTJ and no better teacher to go to with questions than Jimmy.

I know he had little interest in position however its fun to speculate on what could have been ?
your jogging my memory with JJ and Goldens D........ still feel he is an underutilized resource
