JJ Dunagan at CB

All 3 are nickel corner types, get one of Jennings or Waters ready at some lesser schools both would be starting as true freshmen.
all 3 played together against Stanford. Chris Ewald #20 blitzes from just outside the hash

Re; serious playing time for Seatbelt and Jennings. I expect to see them against FAMU and Central Michigan. Outside of that, I’ll have to see it to believe it. We aren’t so depleted that their talents are required against Wake Forest.

Snaps are down in CFB and Mario talks about making guys “earn,” their snaps all the time. So I’ll wait until i see them in so&so packages.

We’ve recruited well, we have a great dc. Everyone relax. This isn’t last year’s defense, this isn’t last years offense. I doubt the defense will be as bad as 2024, the offense will l likely be better. Think a safe expectation is we will be somewhere in between 2025 & 2024 if we can be healthy moving forward at key spots.

Look, we all know this guy’s athletic and good and will play safety in the long run. Why not let him start FAMU at cornerback and give Lucas a break? We don’t need Lucas for the FAMU game. Obviously the receivers are not going to be up to standard, but you would be able to see how JJ does at corner in terms of his reads, blown coverage or lack there of, and how he closes on the run

Thoughts?
I’ve looked at FAMU on paper. They have four three star players at WR, and one is a borderline four star. It would be a good test for him.

All those guys are Nickel Corners. Portis is a pure Nickel. Mack & Ewald can play Cb but not ideal
We literally did not play Portis as a pure nickel against Stanford. Or Mack. And Ewald was the most touted of all 3 coming out of HS.

I prefer Bryce Fitzgerald Who is an Elite Athlete & Can maybe Even Excel with his added Size &! Pure Speed.

JJ Dunnigan is also Elite & Can play CB. But you wants Dunningan Size &! Physicallity At Safety.

Fitzgerald is familiar with Corner as he Playes Nickel & Has practice against Malachai.

Fitzgerald at CB - would ad a big Corner 6’0.5 192lbs. With 4.4 Speed
It may pay dividends in the Playoffs.

Miami is Blessed to have both Fitzgerald & Dunnigan that Are Chess Pieces. Starter Quality Safety in Dylan Day.

We are still long ways then in ‘24.
We Hope we can have All our CB come Play off time.

Long as Lucas there for Clemson game not worried. Him along with O'Connor and Damari is still one of the better CB rooms in the nation with OJ out for the year. I would put seatbelt, Jennings, and Mack heavy reps in the next 3 games tho fast track them

I see the logic - take guys out of positions we know they’re good at, and put them in situations they’re at best mediocre at.

that way instead of having a strong group offset injuries in an injured group, we just have two weak position groups.

i’m sure opposing OCs love this plan

Mack was pretty touted. He was getting burn ahead of OJ before his injury IIRC. To your point, we have a very deep CB room. Just because they're not 6'+ doesn't mean these guys should only be relegated to nickel. There are plenty of NFL CBs with their physical traits.

If he’s out against Clemson it might get dicey. I know everyone will say Clemson sucks but I have a hard time believing they don’t give Miami a dog fight at home. They have elite WR.

How do you know those nickels are mediocre at best at CB? lol

Their OL is suss and their QBs aren't any good either. They may make a few plays but it won't be enough to put an actual scare into us outside of the 1Q. Our offense is too good, they'll have to play keep up and they just can't. Additionally, they have to go to Cal the week before, turn around and come back. If they lose to Cal, the team may just quit like they did vs LSU

They have a much better Dline than Stanford if we dont get things cleaned up, that better offense might struggle..
