Jim Kelly accepts Jimmy V Award for Perseverance

I saw replay this AM pretty impressive man , if we can do what he said ( be a difference maker for others suffering) without pride getting in the we'd all be better people.

GOCANES

That man has gone through a lot especislly having to watch and care for that horrible disease his son had. Praying hard for him!

We're looking at a guy that is as tough as they come and will fight to his last moments on this Earth but also has seemingly found some peace about his entire ordeal through his faith. Even if you don't believe in a higher being, it's tough to deny the strength doing so can provide people in the most trying times.

You still gotta feel for his poor wife though. All the financial blessings in the world probably mean little when you lose a son, have a husband that admittedly wasn't the best husband he could've been for years and then now have to deal with this once your marriage is solid again and you think you can enjoy life and retirement and your kids/grandkids together.

On a somewhat lighter note, that 83 class in Marino, Kelly and Elway seems like it was headlined by some good dudes. Not perfect obviously but more have a beer with/solid types of guys than not.

Very fortunate to have heard him speak when he was honored during halftime of one of our games when I was there. He’s as inspiring as it gets and should stay in all of our prayers

What a spirit and inspirational man! Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kelly family, including Jim, as they go through these difficult times. That speech he just gave was priceless...

Did any of you who saw this were you waiting to hear Jim mention the U , I guess it was a selfish thought of mine but it did cross my mind.

GOCANES

I admit noticing he did not mention playing at The U. Not a selfish thought. In this case, it's NOT all about The U.

Jim Kelly reps Miami more than a lot of former players.

If his health allows, I'd love to see Kelly as a honorary captain at a home game this season.

Exactly. He was rocking Canes gear in the video introduction prior to his speech. As you noted, it's not even remotely important here as it wasn't really a Hall of Fame type of speech where you chronicle your entire life and the Buffalo fanbase and city is always going to get prioritized anyway.

Well said.

And everyone knows where Kelly played college ball. He'll remind them if they don't.
