Below is his resume, he was a journeyman after he left packers but he has the most impressive resume on this staff prior to UM. why doesnt it click? Lack of talent, are we all overrating chickillo and seeing his lack of growth as a sign of franklin. I guess the NFL experience explains why he can't recruit

Franklin returned to Fresno State to coach the defensive line from 1991–1998, this term included a pair of NFL coaching fellowships, working with the Buffalo Bills in the summer of 1994 and the Cleveland Browns in the summer of 1995. In 1999 he coached the interior defensive line for UCLA. He then served as Defensive Line Coach for the Green Bay Packers from 2000–2004, USC for the 2005 season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 2006 season, and the Houston Texans from 2007-2008 before returning to USC as the defensive line coach in 2009.[1] He moved to coach the Defensive line at Temple Owls in 2010 and moved again in 2011 with Al Golden who had been hired to coach the Miami Hurricanes, as coach of the Defensive line and current is there.

I will say I always thought Chick was just too slow and the same can be said for Olsen Pierre. The Dline technique just looks bad though so im not sure what to think of him but he can't recruit and his dline has shown no progress so to me at least get a guy that can recruit if you cant coach

i remember watching chick in under armor game thinking even though he was mvp, man this guy isn't that athletic.

Good coaches don't go from the NFL to Temple. That's a poor resume.

He had a LOT of one year gigs, which is a red flag in my eyes. Guys who are great at their craft and in-demand don't bounce around that much laterally. I have NEVER like the technique of our DLine since he came here and don't understand what he is teaching these guys. Maybe the game has passed him by.

The consensus is that we don't know if he is a good coach or not because of the way Al Golden runs his defense. We don't see the usual defensive line techniques because of defensive philosophy.

I really want to agree with this, but this isn't true. It a huge organization and there are more people to blame than just Al.

He has been fired a lot.

Jethro has coached under Al for 5 years at two different schools. Either Al is terrible at hiring/evaluating assistants, or his scheme is to blame for the porous DL play.

Any way you slice it, it's Al's fault.

This has been discussed repeatedly, but it's clearly the scheme. They are taught NOT to penetrate. I don't blame Chickillo at all.

Typical Golden Girl slop. The GG's act like the assistants determine what sort of approach we take on offense and defense. Wake the fck up and learn a little football.

Do you honestly think the DL coach decides whether the DL play pattycake or shoot gaps? He's teaching what he's told to teach in order to fit into the scheme and philosophy of his bosses--the two bloated meatballs.
