Jeremy Pruitt to Tennessee

Not knocking the hire as its too soon to tell. My only question is how good of a recruiter he actually is. Recruiting to the Bama brand makes all of their staff seem like monster recruiters. What do we know about him pound for pound as a recruiter who is now at an inferior brand. Is he the real deal or just one or many whose recruiting skills were falsely elevated selling the Bama brand?

Way better than a lot of their other choices.

Tennessee bagmen game is top notch. He’ll be miraculously recruiting studs immediately.

Why are you worried about who coaches FSU?

Elite defensive coach and one of the best recruiters in the country

Know who usually sucks as a HC? Elite offensive/defensive coordinators. You'll see, Tennessee's not done...there's plenty of fuel in that dumpster.

and UGA coming back down to reality after this season. UGA playing with 80% (most of the starters and some of the reserves) richts team.

Dont fall for the banana in the tail pipe. UGA wont be around at this level next 2 years
Their 2017 class was elite(top 3 in the country) they are bringing in a bunch of talent this year too with fields headlining the group and the best olineman in the country in salyer from georgia

Great recruiter the first time he was at Bama as a db coach, when he was at fsu he brought in a lot of studs and then when he went to georgia he once again got a lot of elite prospects

I was hoping for the pirate. Wanted to see what Leach could do at a school like Tenn

Maybe not rushing into hiring someone ASAP will work out. Unless they had a shot at Chip Kelly there was no reason to hurry. Schiano was not a bad choice but there was baggage, undeserved perhaps. Who would have been a better legit candidate for the job?

Yea, Kriby's been a huge bust in Athens.

For every Kirby there's a Macelwian. And a Muschamp. Also a Strong, a Kiffin, and a Shannon.

Maybe those guys weren't "elite" per se, but each of them was respected as an assistant, and sucked it as a HC. Point is, being a great assistant doesn't have a lot to do with how good a HC you are.

And don't yell at me about Shannon, it wan't until after he sucked as a HC that people decided his defenses weren't that great.

Extremely sensible. Tennessee has been playing cupcake football ever since Kiffin departed. His 2009 team with dad as defensive coordinator allowed only 5.6 YPA and led the nation by surrendering only 5 touchdown passes. That team gave Alabama fits as two touchdown underdog and should have won other than blocked field goals.

Then somehow they brainstormed Derek Dooley as successor. Now you're a wimp, and the YPA defense immediately jumps to 7.0 level. Not much variance year to year since then. Tennessee has been dependably lousy on defense through the transition to Butch Jones, other than 2015 which was much improved but even that team choked on defense when it mattered, like the end of the Florida game and end of the Alabama game. I thought that defensive coordinator John Jancek was actually pretty good but he apparently had messy off field issues with a younger woman despite being married. At least that's what I heard from two friends of mine who are diehard Volunteer fans. Once Jancek was let go the defense went back to Dooley-era level.

Frankly I was hoping for Mike Leach, and the comedies of wagering against him in that conference. Seemingly every team with an opening these days is desperate for a hard shift toward either a cute offense or stingy defense. Mostly the offense wins out, like the Florida State example and the Nebraska example.

But this move at least places another potential road block in front of Alabama annually, once Pruitt gets things going. Tennessee with an offensive minded team was always destined to get destroyed by Saban.

D will be legit. Team will have an edge.

OC hire will determine if he’s competing with UGA and Florida for the top spot in the East, or batting South Carolina and Kentucky for 3rd place.

Taking DC away from Bama is a plus for everyone so it is good that TN has been daytime soap drama. But saban seems to replace coaches with ease. That said, this is good hire for TN.

This is utter and complete nonsense. Many coordinators go on to be great head coaches:

Jimmy Johnson
Bob Stoops
Mark Richt
Steve Spurrier
Pete Carroll
David Shaw

I mean...dont ALL Head Coaches have the position of coordinator at some point?

He pulled one of the best recruiting jobs of last few years snagging Jalen Ramsey. Of course the situation at USC and Tenn. helped, but that was a big time get. Arguably their most important player after Jameis. Also got Matthew Thomas for them, who hasn't exactly panned out, but let's not act like that wasn't a recruiting victory for them.
