Only a few South Florida players get a pass from me for not coming to Miami. Lamar Jackson is one of them. Louisville believed in him as a quarterback from the jump, and Miami didn’t even offer him until the very end. Once that American Heritage QB, Torrance Gibson, committed to Ohio State Buckeyes football, Miami circled back to Lamar. And Miami was already his dream school. But by then, he had already built that loyalty to Louisville and their head coach, the one who believed in him first. I respect that. I don’t blame him at all.
Jeremiah Smith is different. He had every chance to come back home, and to me there were no excuses. Yeah, other players in different years can point to where the program was at and use that as a reason, and fair enough. But this situation wasn’t that. You couldn’t ask for a better setup than what Miami had for a South Florida kid to come home, represent the city, and play for the Hurricanes. It was right there for him. Best possible situation. F him and old heads showing him love
So nah, he can rep Columbus. That’s where he’s from. Not Miami.
