Jedd Fisch talks about his time at Miami

I'll for sure defer to @Brains on this one ... but Fisch inarguably did a helluva job at Arizona.

I think he'll do fine at UW, too, once roster is elevated. For whatever reason(s), DeBoer's recruiting was pretty bad there (just the opposite of what his staff has done in a few months in Tuscaloosa)
UW is historically a better program (by far) than Arizona. If he does well enough, he may not want to leave. Washington isn't the same pressure level as UF. I'd probably prefer that.

Jedd is a smart guy and a competent coach. He embraced the challenge at Miami but was understandably frustrated by the lack of support and resources within the program. It was a big battle just to get iPads for the players to transition to digital playbooks.

Man the program has come so far...

I don't know, man.

That turnaround at Arizona was un-*******-believable.

We're talking about inheriting a non-descript program with lackluster facilities and zero in-state recruiting pull that had bottomed out — and then rising from complete dog**** to No. 14 in the country in just 3 seasons.

Fisch's staff recruited their asses off and found some hidden gems to bolster the roster. UA consistently played over their heads.

Hopefully he and his wife prefer Seattle over Hogtown.

Fisch at UF would not be a good thing for us imo

@Brains ... You gonna weigh in here?
Look at the totality of his work. As I mentioned in my last reply, there have been bigger piles of mierda as coaches, but I see more flops than successes.
Also, he did this in the PAC 12. They went 9-3, won (and lost) a bunch of close games. Then they beat Oklahoma im their bowl game that likely had many starters sitting out. Did he inherit a lifelong mediocre program? Even bottom tier program? Sure. Did he win there? Yes. One season. He accomplished one time what James Franklin does each year. Is that a fair comparison? Eh maybe, maybe not; but it’s close enough to make my point. Let’s see what he does at UW. If I’m wrong, @ me and I’ll salute you. You can even pull the receipt.

Competent offensive coordinator. Good blend of college and pro concepts and experience. The reason he bounced around so much is he's always wanted the head gig, and would social climb quickly if he thought it would benefit that quest.

His reputation is more as an overall tactician/playcaller than as a recruiter or QB coach.

Would go to UF if they offered him (unless their offer just totally sucked). I know someone who lived on hall with him at Hogtown, said Fisch was a massive douche.

I prefer him at Zona to UF, although I do not think he's a panacea for UF.
Fair take 🫡

Gotta admit — hadn't thought about the Franklin at Vandy/Pedo State comparison wrt Jedd Fisch ... but that's certainly a possibility.

I thought Franklin would be very successful as Bill O'Brien's replacement in State College, but he's peed down his leg more often than not

After three years at UW, we ought to know what he is. The Huskies were a perennial stud team in the 70’s through the 90’s. They played in the NC game last year. That program has some juice. If he wins 10+ there regularly, especially in the B1G, I’ll be happy to tip my cap. I just see a lot of 7-5 to 9-3 out of him. Time will tell.

I am not speaking about the entirety of his career, but he was good at UM.
Ok. Fair enough. Mentally I have him lumped together with Al Golden, which nauseates me. Probably has caused me to blur out a lot of that era as well.

I made the original comment because I wonder how guys like him get to the jobs they get. I think we’ve beaten this discussion to death.

Yeah, it's hard to figure out how he has landed those jobs

Your post was misleading. The article wasn't about teams he coach at it was about coaches he worked with. Every section was an individual coach.

Right. So why isn’t the Miami coach in there? Either he didn’t have anything substantive to say or didn’t have anything good to say at all. You know that because the article includes his experience with Brian Billick.

I have no idea why I have heard this the last few years. I agree with you on Fisch here, but I have no problem with him. I expected him to be UF's next coach, but they may swing at Kiffin now. Now some coaches who didn't play college or NFL football; Mike Leach, Sonny Dykes, Dave Aranda, David Cutcliffe, Hugh Freeze, George O'Leary, Paul Johnson, Charlie Weiss.

Billick was a long time NFL head coach. Someone who was well regarded and lends weight to a resume. Jedd has made a big deal selling his NFL experience to recruits and to his team. Only makes sense he'd keep that up.

When talking about the LEGENDS and CHAMPIONSHIP coaches he's been with he doesn't bring up Al Golden. I doubt it has anything to do with negativity twords Golden or the program. When compared to the rest of that list Golden really is out of place. He brings up famous guys he's only peripherally worked with because it makes him look good.

Look at all the coaches who barely worked with Saban citing him as a mentor. Makes them look good by association.

For Jedd that article is another article to hang on his wall to lend to his aura. Helps with recruits and general respect from people not only without but more importantly within the Washington sphere.

Fisch doesn’t have a lot to say about Miami other than that he bonded with Brennan Carroll. That’s the truth. Your Billick take is too wordy to be correct.

Don’t forget…

I was never a huge Jed Fisch guy. He was here for two seasons one year the offense sucked and the second year the offense was pretty good but wildly inconsistent. I do like how he’s evolved his scheme recently. He’s a much better coach with a much better offense now than he ever was here.

His tenure here is terribly overrated by CIS but that’s mostly because we’ve hired some of the WORST offensive coordinators in the game over the last two decades. Honestly the list goes 1) Lashlee 2) Fisch and 3)……James Coley? That’s how bad it’s been.
