Him and the kid from Northwestern need to pick a sport. With that said, i hope we land both
This.......show me the last person that was highly productive in both basketball and football in college. And dont put some player in Div II bull****. Power 4 school.

I agree with the pick a sport theme, but there are more than you might think:

Tony Gonzalez (Cal), Antonio Gates (Kent State - mid school but he was a BB student and took Kent to the Elite Eight I believe). Julius Peppers (UNC) and our own Jimmy Graham.

3/4 were TEs. None were anywhere near twigs. Aside from Gates, none were superstars in basketball. Productive? Yes. Stars, no. Hence, pick a sport.

Gonzalez barely had better numbers in college basketball than Bronny James. Gates didnt play college football. Peppers was just a backup on UNC. Graham didnt play football till he was done with Bball.

Like you said pick a sport(in this case football) for Lopez and Russel.

This is an elite player.

His stats at Chaminade don’t seem real- 25 PPG on the hardwood, 1,300 yards on the field. For perspective, Jeremiah Smith had just under 1,100 yards as a junior at Chaminade.

I’d be shocked if Lopez is not a difference-maker in college.
Goddam. He may be one of the few dual sport athletes who can make it work in college.

Charlie Ward and Ronald Curry too

If they are on time to practice, get good sleep, prepared to play, and their grades are good; they can do both. The #1 TE in the country in 2027 plays on Jai Lucas’ brother’s AAU team. He wants to play both in college, and the fact that LSU let their other TE try to play both is a positive recruiting pitch.

Even with all the changes recently, times haven’t changed so much that guys can’t play multiple sports : Pat Connaughton, Danny Ainge, Antwaan Randle El, Denard Robinson, Chad Jones & Jared Mitchell, Nate Robinson, etc.

Obviously guys like Deion Sanders (3 sports in college), Julius Peppers, Antonio Gates, and others are freaks of nature ⏸️⏯️ That doesn’t mean that other top 1% athletes shouldn’t try because they might not be HOF bound. If it’s not working out then they’ll have to adjust

This offer is legit for basketball ability alone. He can hoop at the college level.

Let the young man play both sports for as long as he is good enough to do so. Life will ultimately let him know where his future lies, as it does for everyone not named Bo Jackson who excelled at 2 pro sports. But mere mortals always find out sooner or later. Better later. Let him enjoy playing both sports until he can’t.

Yep. And this pretty much means we aren't going to get Russell. No way Lucas would take two part time guys
Top level WR talent is great but look at the crew we had this year at WR. Probably not the highest ranked guys coming out of HS but we did pretty **** good with them. The key is to take care of business on both lines and get a QB that can make good decisions and we will be fine.

Bronny James just averaged 22/5/5 in the gleague and Pat Riley was going to sign Tony Gonazalez during the lockout. If dudes can play basketball and minor league baseball, i think they can hoop with football too. Nate Robinson is the major success story that Jansen can hopefully model himself afterwards.

Peppers was a backup is kinda weak argument since UNC is UNC. Dude still put 21 and 10 in his last hoops game in college. He also played on Brendan Haywood’s aau team.

If Jansen isn’t good enough in basketball which seems like his lesser sport, he will just focus on football like Donovan McNabb did. He is definitely a better hooper than Corn Elder.

Wouldn’t be so sure about Lucas’ aversion to two part time guys, and I guarantee he won’t say no to one of his brother’s players if he wants to play (#1 TE in ‘27). He is a beast at basketball too.

Saying Peppers waa a back up at unc is really underrating that freaks ability.
He ended up being one of their better back ups and was playing behing guys lile Brendan Haywood who ended up good nba players. Gave them 7 and 5 in the ncaas.

I dont see none of these two having ju pep athleticism..but our bball team isnt good tbey may can help in some capacity legitimately.
