James Williams

Facts.

Its funny we did the same **** we did with Ray Ray with JW. Both should have been LBs from the jump but since they were 5 stars we let them dictate where they play then the NFL told both they were LBs.
Transfer season with JW... you cant force someone to play where he doesn't want to

Whether or not he outplayed the safeties or not there's no dispute in the FACT he held us hostage. He flat out said he would transfer to ufag if we forced the position switch. Only reason he listened in his last year is because of the NFL feedback he got saying NFL had no interest in him at safety but a lot of teams would like to see what he could do at backer or with his hand down. By the way two things can be true and in this case are. He did outplay the safeties that we were able to play and he did hold us hostage. The reason both are true is because his insistence to play safety denied us the ability to develop someone opposite Kam. Agree with it or not is what it is. Only way it could be said we held ourselves hostage is because we were so worried about the optics of a 5 star DB from Miami transferring to ufag that we never forced the issue. Much the same as what Mandy did with pope.
In this portal era there is no such thing as holding a team hostage imo, if we felt that strongly about it we would have went and got another safety and let him go. James always wanted to be a cane i would have called his bluff

Well I respect your opinion and I probably view it the same way. However if you think those situations don't exist you're fooling yourself. Especially when you apply our own circumstances. Look how feminine the fan base is even on here in a limited sample size with applying zero circumstances or context. If a kid goes elsewhere ESPECIALLY IF HES FROM DOWN HERE & HES HIGHLY RATED THEY ALL HAVE A ****** MELTDOWN... What do you seriously in all honesty think happens if Mandy signs a 5 star safety FROM MIAMI that our fan base in large part felt as usual was the next coming of Sean & Mario let's him transfer for ANY REASON. They won't know the backstory and most of them wouldn't care. It would simply be a meltdown that one of our highest rated recruits quit on us cause he felt Mario was **** and not only did he leave he also turned around and went to the gayturds where everyone would swear he was amazing. You don't think with that going on that a hostage scenario isn't an accurate depection I don't know what else to tell you. Not only does that happen with the fan base but then the local corches like hoe *** luther turn on us as well about how we don't care for our locals.

Well Mario decided to cede control to the 20 year old and it still hasn't resulted in the 5* SFLA recruits picking Miami. Win games and send players to the league everything else is mute. We shouldn't be in that situation unless the player is All-American or at least All-ACC. We are playing go-fish while other schools are playing chess.

lol i know James personally.

I told him he would be a de when he was in the eleventh grade.

I mean i wasnt fully for a move to lb "HERE" for him...because if you say someone is sh*t at tackling...moving them to lb isnt actually the place to put them. lol

But he has strength as a strongside backer in the nfl.....and he actually seemed solid from the point of playing it at the sr bowl so clearly the way we presented it to him never was that appealing. Clemson found a way to utilize isaiah simmons in a way we probably could of used James. Isaiah is way more athletic but James wasnt a terrible blitzer....thats why i said we held our self hostage. didnt recruit the safety position well clearly and didnt use the kid as a swiss army knife type that logged some snaps int he back end to keep him happy.
I disagree with the point about tackling at backer as much. It's not that he was a horrible tackler and that was what made everything else fall apart. It's more as a DB when you take horrible angles more often than not that causes your technique and your tackling to break down. At lber the game plays a lot slower. It's more about physicality then it is about technique. James always had no issue with throwing his body at people and attempting shoulder tackles. Ironically that's probably what led to his ability to transition eventually at backer. Tearing his labrum and breaking his collar bone made him emphasize fundamentals. That's where he's able to distance himself as a linebacker with his physical measurables. I've always said this had to be his path to succeed. You obviously knew it at the same point I did. I simply wish when lonzo started telling him as a freshman that he would've said ok how can we do this opposed to ufag here I come. He was willing at the senior bowl because as I'm sure you remember he started getting snaps in the off-season at at backer and in that star role going into his last year.

You 🥷 be the biggest hypocrites on here I swear lol.. now all of sudden if we told James Miami 5star must have Williams to kick rocks 🪨 n go play safety @ UF cuz he ain’t wanna play LB here yall would’ve been all good n happy w/ that decision??? Mannnn gtfoh you 🥷 would’ve been on here bleeding a whole river out yall 🐈 had that happened ..😂 AUG 31st can’t get here soon enough boaaa I swear.

They had no choice. The PR hit of James Williams transferring out at that point, especially to an instate school, would be brutal. We discussed it at the time. He ultimately hurt himself though because he had no future in the league at safety.

I agree with how the fans might view it but that’s why im saying if they felt that strong about it then who cares. Fans are gonna meltdown about anything that shouldn’t factor in decision making imo.

Local kids & coaches i could understand but to me when you start compromising what you think is right for the team to have the best results? Thats when it gets tricky, because in the end results are what matters most so if you feel strong enough about something thats gonna effect the teams results then you shouldn’t care about all of that noise

Because guess what the fans will find something else to be mad at like we see all the time here lol, the local coaches will have different issues but that would now be compiled on top of you underachieving. People only respect winning man just win consistently and the problems start to become solvable, the fan meltdowns start to lessen they start believing whatever, the locals will fall in line

Arguing about it now is pointless. If James Williams really held the team hostage that he was going to transfer, then they should have let him transfer and held a press conference that same day saying “James was asked to move to linebacker because he’s not a good safety. He threatened to transfer if we moved him but we can’t let players hold us hostage. We wish him the best playing safety at his new school”.

Can you imagine the backlash if James Williams left to go play for the gaytors of all teams ???!

James wasn’t the greatest safety while here but if we had him/kam last YR we probably make the college playoffs. That Texas A&M game was prolly my fav game from him here.

Kinda of a Lose lose situation cause that prolly was the right thing to do but it would’ve been a terrible look locally

Yea it’s tricky becuz the local scene from the coaches from the youth players who look up to kids like James would’ve murdered us optics wise, **** the fans lol …if we had been recruiting like a powerhouse like Bama the decision would be MUCH easier to
Make but unfortunately for us **** like that just further alienates us from top recruits locally.

We worry about that **** way too much lol, how many kids are gonna be 6’5 safeties? Win and put guys in the league and none of this will matter as much as we think. Its only seems important because we been mediocre

Optics wise, the staff was in a screwed up situation with James.

And it doesn't help that we're in a location where every "foe foe" Cover-3 running high school coach thinks they know more than the staff at the University of Miami.
They would destroy us if we moved James or let him transfer.

The only solution is to win big and start sending kids to the NFL. Once we do that, we'll have enough clout to dictate terms to ANYBODY.

I doubt Saban or Smart has/had to deal with this. (at least to this extent)
I could be wrong though.

Imagine losing a 5 star local DT to the portal … Oh wait, we did. We set the culture. We did it the “right way”. The wins will come later.

All these things were said when Mario kicked those cancers to the portal and we went 12-13. If JW hit the portal, the exact same rhetoric would have been said here as with all the other local players that bounced -- new sheriff in town, not buying in, Manny kid, etc. etc.

Nah. I’m with @E1k on this one. If you recruit over the problem, the issue resolves itself.

JW should have played a different position at Miami. Miami also should not have been held hostage, by him and then again by TVD...

The same people also told us that losing Kam and JW at safety was addition by subtraction, until we rolled out a ******* defensive disaster last year and anyone with eyes and not bias wished they were back...

EDIT: Nesta was a local 4* DT, not 5.

If the team actually won games, they wouldn’t have to worry about how it looked locally. Either they win and start dictating to local players and coaches or they keep losing and bending over backwards for local players and coaches (which doesn’t help the team get better)

News flash we HAVENT/DIDNT recruit well enough to boot James Williams to Florida, you just assume we would’ve upgraded at safety when he left, Where were all these Elite safeties that Miami brought in that would’ve been an upgrade to James Williams when he was here ? Can you point me to em?
