I never said he should be playing… Just said they evaluated him based solely on size and athleticism. So the evaluators don't assess football skills at all? No kid on the defensive side of the LOS should be rated as a 5 star when he lacks a major fundamental skill. In JWs case, the ability and/or willingness to tackle.
Where should he be playing? You can't hide inability to tackle anywhere on defense that I'm aware of.
What ****es me off is his bonehead penalties and “me” attitudeNo need trashing individual players, but good luck to #0 should he desire to leave. He is clearly the most frustrating player to watch. Nothing more needs to be said.
This place is funny. Reading this entire thread I have to wonder what everyone saw in him last year. I had the same take on him his freshman year but everyone here was just tripping over themselves about how elite he was and that he would be an AA. I never saw the hype with him. Yes I could see the athleticism but the kid has zero feel for the game and can't tackle to save his life. No football IQ to speak of and undisciplined to boot. I never got on his case because he was a true freshman but now that his sophomore year is in the books I can say that I just don't see it with him. Great athlete. Mediocre football player. The one saving grace might be that many close to the program say that he really cares and that he knows the playbook but his play on the field says different. I just don't know what it's going to take to develop him and turn that potential into actual production. He reminds me of a poor man's Kenny Phillips. I very poor man's Kenny Phillips. Ok. Very very poor and possibly destitute. For all his natural ability and athletic gifts, he just doesn't make many impactful plays. Heck, he doesn't make any plays even routine ones. I don't know what it's going to take with James W. A new DC? Maybe a better fit in a different system? I don't have the answers.
ProbablyWill start next year. Thanks
people worried about this coming out of hs. Manny was probably the only coach who was willing to let him play safety. You said it perfectly
**** y’all straight trashed this dude and he was second on the team in tackles. Y’all a bit harsh.. He was used wrong anyways. He’s great when he is closer to the line and can use his length and athleticism. He had dude playing deep safety too much. Last year he had less tackles but was used better. Let Kam play center field and move James around to make plays. If he improves his stats next year like he did this year he will have 80 tackles which you don’t want your safety getting unless he is in the box a lot. That’s where I need to see this guy. He makes mistakes but even all-pros do. He just needs more discipline and coaching.
At some point y'all are gonna start believing Macho about these kids, man.
I told y'all when he was coming out of high school, HE DOESN'T LIKE TO TACKLE.
"You're crazy Macho! He's a 6'5" 230lb 5-star bro!"
I watched Parrish embarrass him countless times on his way to 250 yards rushing during Western's playoff game versus Columbus. He had absolutely no interest in tackling that kid.
He's an "opportunistic tackler" and will only hit people who don't see him coming.
Some guys are very bad tacklers in the open field and they do better in close quarters. That might apply to Williams. Only problem here is, his a$$ doesn't want to play Linebacker. He truly believes he's a Safety. He even purposely prevented himself from gaining weight so that he could stay back there. He must not want an NFL check.
I hope the staff stops catering to his bullsh!t and tells him to play LB or hit the portal. He's not giving us anything at Safety anyway. (plus I heard he ain't the easiest kid to coach)
I think a lot of y'all underestimate the level of BS (from the Manny era) that this new staff has to deal with.
But if he doesn’t want to hit how tf he gunna play LB? Just coverage backer on passing downs to cover TE’s? LB is the one spot you gotta meet em in the hole face to face which 0 doesn’t like to do. I really don’t get it. I was 5’8 180 and loved playing LB in high school. Best position on defense imo, but I also loved tackling even if I didn’t lay the boom muchAt some point y'all are gonna start believing Macho about these kids, man.
