James Publicly Commenting on Diaz's Job Status is a Bad Sign

IMO, Blake James making public comments that Manny needs to win in order to keep his job is actually a bad sign. To me, it shows that James believes or has been told that his job is safe. So, he feels comfortable enough to put the heat on Manny in the press.

The longer James is maintained as AD, the odds of a coaching change, or at least a coaching change with a competent replacement, are much lower. Think about it, if James is fired immediately after the season, do you really think a new AD could be hired within a week to get one of the best head coaching candidates out there, especially when USC and LSU are currently now doing their research as to what coaches they will target? If the new AD was hired within that first week, would that person have had enough time to vet the best available coaching candidates out there? I'm not so sure.

My point - Fire Blake now please.

LOLOL. Who hired the guy who isn’t "winning enough"? Seems Blake James believes in the leadership philosophy of "The buck stops with that guy over there."

we need a new AD in place to start evaluation on basketball and baseball ASAP. so he can focus on straightening out this football program in Dec.
 
This dude & Manny are done. Their recent actions and body language are dead give aways. The management of course is definitely puzzling. If both are allowed to finish the year it doesn't give us a whole lot of time to get things in order, unless the BOT has someone in mind already for AD and is in early negotiation phase.

They both know the are dead men walking. They know they are auditioning for future employment at this point and putting on that brave public face that they are still in control.

He says every aspect of the football program is constantly being evaluated. I’d like to hear from the folks evaluating the athletic department. No competent leader can look at Blake and his department and be on the fence on whether to fire him or not.
 
Having follow this team for decades I see nothing that makes me believe James will be fired. But I hope all the insiders on this board are right and they are both gone.

In either case, the administration is hoping some opposing coach will do the job for them and embarrass us enough to allow them to fire Manny and possibly James without them having to feel bad about it.

The problem with that approach is it does help to our recruiting, and the conference is so bad man he might accidentally win it. Then the end of the season is going to be some serious high drama.

Totally agree. Where is there any sign that the "insiders" are right? If you really don't want Blake involved in the selection of the next coach, what would be the genius strategy of keeping him on until the end of the season? Each day that goes by is one less day to interview a replacement and one less day for that replacement to identify and get a quality head coach before USC and LSU get their pickings.

Using a lot of "we" as opposed to "I" could also mean he is not the only one involved in the evaluation. Maybe it means nothing but as long as the decision is not solely up to him means he may have been neutered. And when he also mentions the "programs" supposedly under his charge have not been winning enough that means he is also being evaluated.

So hard to take his statement as being definitive of his future employment status one way or the other. He still is AD and needs to address media questions. Saying a lot but being vague is one way to do it.

James is a jerk. There was no reason to hold this big media event other than to distance himself from the stink. Jerk! This was your fault in the hire. You and Diaz will exit through the same door.
