They are both critical but in different functions. A mike has majority of his value pre snap. Without his analysis and dialogue a defense more often than not will be lost. Now when you factor in actual gameplay and value a edge, lber & DB would all tell you, your defense is reliant on that dt. A DB is entirely dependant on line play as a whole to play at your peak. For the reasons you mentioned and far more it's not even a debate with me. Just my opinion though. I played with some monster tackles between us & NFL. I know what we as a defense faced with them opposed to without them it's not even comparable.

I put more of a premium on DL because DL are more rare athletes than OL.

That’s fine. I want both. Oregon had probably one of the best d lines last year and it did nothing to help them in that 2nd game against Ohio State. Give me monsters on both line of scrimmage

If stars matter so much how has Michigan had as good of a DL as UGA the last few years? It’s about development as much as anything. I saw Saban hit on as many 3 and 4 star DL as 5 star DL.

Mario will never prioritize any position over OLINE

DLine has been far better recruits in terms of average rating and it's not close whatsoever. As far as actual TOP rated recruits we've had what 4 under Mario (including Cantwell) for OLine, while bringing in 4-5 per class. Meanwhile on DLine we've had like 6+ and that not even including this class where currently we are still going for big guys like Brown, PerryWigt, Wilson, and a bunch of others including will still recruit James Johnson and stuff....

We lost JJ the best DT in Florida. We are perceived to lose Russell, the highest ranked receiver in Florida. Cooper is not in the bag right now. It’s not good. We’ve got to land Brown and the key to make this right
