Likewise to my son (my wife and I live in Austin as well). How if Texas is not careful they are going to end up with an NFL level payroll if they are throwing out ridiculous sums to incoming freshmen.Trying to explain to my Longhorn (I live in Austin) friends that Johnson, Dia Bell, Cooper aren't worth the bags they're throwing at them is currently a losing cause
Let's say Cooper gets $3M. What about UT's returning running backs? Are they prepared to up the salary for them?
Then let's go with UT's wide receivers. In the NFL, star wide receivers outearn running backs. It stands to reason that the receivers of the Longhorns would also want something similar to what Cooper obtained.
And then for the next five star running back that Texas goes after in 2027...$3M is now the absolute floor for an NIL offer.
