2026 James "JJ" Johnson 4* DT from Northwestern via Ft Myers Flips to Texas From UGA

What’s going on w CR that his recruitment is so unusual?

Also.. Miami not giving Lopez a commitable offer puts things in a different light.

Allow me to say that "commitable offer" is probably an old-school term. Let's just say that what Miami was offering and what he wanted were not in enough of a geosynchronous orbit.

What are these "valuable resources"? Seriously. A dinner at Prime 112? We are spending a half-mil and a mill on NIL deals, so the cost of OVs and Mario's (limitless) time are mere drops in the bucket.

And nobody has said it isn't a failure to miss on guys. Nobody. That is just some made-up bull**** (not made up by you, but by others).

Russell - is a very unusual case.

Lopez - again, I don't know who is feeding you the nitrous, but everyone that I talk to said that he would be superfluous if we landed Spafford. I have dozens of texts and DMs going back MONTHS saying that we wanted height and speed more than any other WR attribute this cycle, and with Ny Carr coming back, we weren't exactly desperate for a smaller WR. 5'10" and 165 ain't that, and when Miami didn't step up with a committable offer, he took his talents to Talla****inghassee.

Johnson - is definitely not over.

Nobody is trying to spin anything. But the smell of *** coming from all the puckered sphincters on this thread is sad. CIS posters just flat out giving up all hope after UGa leaks that they are in the lead.

Not directed to you, more about other posters, but...

You can't talk about wanting size and than have Spafford in this class. This staff has ALWAYS and I mean always being a big fan of Lopez and he has always been a take. He is a big miss, it's that simple.

The most valuable resource of all is TIME. You cannot replace, nor replicate it. So it is a massively wasted resrouce and the most important of all. When we invest a serious amount of time into a recruitment and miss, it is a failure.

And Johnson while not done, as I have not gotten confirmation yet, although the media world is saying UGA, it is extremely hard to flip recruits in this day and age if he does indeed choose UGA. I mean, the staff missed on every single late flip last cycle. So to say there is anymore than a slim chance, is being misleading.

This recruitment reeks of “don’t be the first to get the verbal”, I just know this **** bout to play out for months… in true South Florida blue chip fashion, kid fits right in

Based on what we have on the team and coming in as receivers I would NOT classify Lopez as a loss at all.

Sure. Whatever you say.

Lopez is 5'10" and 165 pounds, and is the #252 overall recruit (composite). Spafford is 5'11" and 175 pounds, and is the #74 overall recruit (composite). And Spafford is faster. We've been looking for HEIGHT and speed at WR almost exclusively. If we are going to make ONE EXCEPTION and dip below 6' for a WR, we are not going to take two guys who are in the same range. And we didn't know we would get Spafford. I'm not saying the staff wasn't a big fan of Lopez at one time, but we aren't taking 7 WRs. Spafford committed and fit the bill, all our other remaining targets are taller. That's a fact.

"TIME". Hilarious. Mario sleeps 4 hours a night. Please, by all means, give us this massive list of recruits that we've "missed out on" because Mario "wasted his time" chasing Keys and Brown and Russell. You can't. You won't. We were bring in 10 and 15 guys for recruiting weekends. Every recruit raved about how great the Miami recruiting weekends were. I guarantee you that Calvin Russell will not spurn Miami because he didn't get enough time to talk to Mario at Mario's house.

And this is NOT about "flipping recruits in this day and age". Can you get anymore vague and random? This is about locking up nearly the entire blue-chip Class of 2026 before the House settlement becomes formalized NCAA law. This is everyone's last chance to sign a big "Collective NIL" deal before all the fascist Wisconsin-FSU language gets inserted into all the rev-share deals. THAT is why you won't see much flipping after August, because it's pretty hard to give up a bird in the hand for even less in the House bush. Not because it's "so hard in this day and age".

I've already said, if we don't get the WR/DT/LB/S classes that we want, we will hit the Portal hard in 2026. That's also a fact.

I mean yea, I think we can all agree that time is the most valuable resource.

But this cat is right down the road… and ‘nade is a school we are at religiously. It’s not like we’re going out of the way to visit this kid. Texts take all of 10 seconds. Even if daily. Nor is it any hairs off our *** from him visiting unlimited amount of times or spending a few dollars on dinners and such.

It can be a failure without wasting valuable resources. Slots like him are a dime a dozen… he’s NOT Restrepo. Recruiting in south Fla never fails to deliver. Next.

I'm going to circle back around and focus on this one point.

Is Kirby Smart a failure because of all the time he invested into recruiting Jackson Cantwell and Derrek Cooper and Vance Spafford?

Seriously.

Everyone wants the top kids. EVERY school (except the one that gets the signature) has "massively wasted the most valuable resource of TIME".

You are veering into this bizarre and insane @cway313 territory. Where you are starting to espouse the "surrender monkey" approach to certain recruits that, I guess, you think we can read their minds or something.

Bunch of 17 and 18 year old kids with short attention spans and a large need for attention. They have ALWAYS been allowed to take 5 official visits, though there is no longer a limit. That means that 80% of the schools that host these top recruits are FAILURES.

If you honestly believe that Mario is going to land 100% of the blue-chippers he spends time with, you should just say so and then people can mock your ridiculous beliefs. Sure, in a perfect world, it would be AWESOME if every coach (or at least the Miami coaches) could magically figure out which recruits to "spend time with" and which recruits they could give up on.

Good lord...every time I think I'm talking to a poster with a moderate amount of logic and common sense and realistic expectations, I find out that he's a stubborn hard-head moper who expects Mario Cristobal to be a mind-reader who can figure out how to spend all his time with the "serious" Miami recruits while ignoring the rest.

Unbelievable.

Missed the point

I said no one knows. That includes me.

Were all waiting for ND which will let us know instantly how good or bad we are at DT.

They have arguably the best line in football and a top tier RB. If he runs for 250+ we're goose ****. If he doesn't were cooking with bacon grease.

Let it happen perhaps?

One injury and there's a true freshman in the two deep but yeah, take care pal.

Youre desperate to dig outta this one.

I get it.

So now youre relying on injuries.

Lol

Any team gets starters injured they have issues.

June baby. I love it.

I am not part of that discussion and could care less about that. Regardless of point, he was top of the board priority. When you are there, valuable resources are spent on the recruitment. So, plain and simple we whiffed. It is a failure.

Forget about the pipe dreams in the Keys and Browns of the world, those were always longshots and would be EXCEPTIONAL wins. We, UM, the staff fully expected Russell in this class (highly unlikely), Lopez (now a Nole), Johnson (looking UGA). That is such a bad, bad look to lose all those guys. No way to spin it.

Are you trying to tell me Lopez wasn't a take? They DESPERATELY wanted Lopez. To state anything otherwise is a flat out lie.

You can spin time all you want. No resource is more valuable. There is only 1 Mario and so many staff members. There time is NOT limitless. When your focus is on certain recruits, and miss, now you have to move on to other recruits who you did not recruit as heavily and are playing catch up to other programs that prioritized them. Good luck thinking that will work out.

The portal is not something you can EVER count on. You can preach hitting it all you want, but you have no idea who will enter. Not to mention the competition is stiffer, players cost more and the staff has had a ton of misses and bad evals to boot.
