James Coley and his "check with me" stupidity

Coleys offense needs to get much tougher and physical especially against the better opponents, this offense is on skates and relies on way too much precision and matchups to succeed, need to have the ability to get into a slugfest

Check with me is fine - I'm not a huge fan of it but I don't have a huge issue with it. My biggest problem is that we run the play clock down to 1 wayyyy too much especially for a freshman qb. We have to move quicker as an offense.

This, a lot of offenses use this, but we just seem to be taking too long to get the play back in.

That's the issue with me. You can't argue the tactic when Oregon and Auburn seem to do just fine looking over for signs and cartoon fixes, but the reality is that this coaching staff is so inexperienced and subpar that it is likely required for them to do this in the hopes of getting in a call period, much less the one they want. It surely isn't serving any purpose in getting a look at the defense in order to get them quickly into the right look...

UM

No issue with check with me.

My issue is Coley's inability to adjust beyond his game plan. He has no on the fly ability whatsoever, which is to be expected from a guy who never called plays in his life. Miami is not a place to learn on the job, even if he's a cool, social media-acclimated cuban guy (which is why people defend him).

Check with me is understandable with a freshman QB. But running the clock to zero on every play is a disaster. Opposing defenses can time their rush to the play clock and shoot forward as if shot from a cannon. The extra time gives defenses plenty of time to adjust to UM's formation and to rest. With UM's players, they should go bang-bang and keep the opposition on its heels, tire them out. Let's hope that the check with me attitude disappears next year.

exactly..and lets not pretend that we were doing just fine getting plays called in a timely fashion before coley....this is a golden thing and it drives me friggin crazy!

123rd out of 128 in plays per game of offense, 64.4 plays per game. Our opponents average 74.4 plays per game.

I have no doubt that this is on Golden to shorten games.

And why wouldn't you want to shorten games when you have Johnson, Walford, Dorsett and Co? Why would you want to use your talent advantage in your favor? Ahh, that's right, you fear your defense that you built. You are afraid of your own shadow.

Golden is making a concerted effort to milk as much clock as he can. Trying to make the defense look good. We get plays off with under 4 seconds left a lot of the time.

This is very frustrating with all the explosion and speed we have. Would like to be more uptempo. Instead we stand around and have to do something for 40 seconds, so we stare at Coley while he orders his pastelitos on his robot glasses.

We are #123 in total third downs made and #106 in third down conversion percentage. And you can't blame it on a freshman quarterback. Last year we were #116 in converted third downs and #98 in third down conversion percentage. Those are amazingly poor numbers for both years.
