Eh, his system was getting lucky on a bunch of 3*, keeping them together for 4 years and backfilling with some portal guys. That continuity of players in the same system for that long allows you to do things other teams can’t. Believe they played only about 13 guys on both O and D last year. Tells me there ain’t much behind that nucleus that won him a natty.

Cignetti is a good coach. But I’m tired of the nonsense that he is one of the best coaches ever. The guy coached at IUP which has been a national D2 power for decades. Took over a bad Elon team and went 13-9. Then went to JMU that had regularly won 10+ games. Indiana he did a real good job, there is no disputing that but I’m about over the Cignetti talk.

Like I said. He won at 2 traditional powerhouse programs. Did so-so at Elon. I’ll hold out to see how he continues at Indiana now that his nucleus of players are moving on.

And also odd for how great a coach he is that he didn’t get a P4 HC job until he was in his early 60s. Went 14 years from being an assistant at Bama to getting a P4 HC spot.

I believe he’s Doc Rivers. The stars aligned and every single decision and play went in their favor this year.

That won’t happen again.

Much like when Doc inherited/capitalized on 1 year in Boston…and then has since been exposed afterwards.

Watched him do subpar, but ultimately fail in Orlando (Elon) when he shouldn’t have before all of that as well.
