The portal struck gold for them with super seniors from covid. That's not happening again, for anyone. And i think they will eventually make serious changes to the portal soon. High school recruiting will be the thing again. U have enough elite people crying like Saban and others. As for Cig recruiting, its left to be seen. Wouldnt just write them off. Football players really live in a bubble at whichever school they at. Eating elsewhere, different classes, football facilities for recreation etc.

Honestly Bloomington isn’t that close to Indy. Bloomington’s a nice college town full of parties, but not much else
 
IU's campus is beautiful. Bloomington itself is a hard sell. Brown County State Park about 30 miles due East is just beautiful. Rent a cabin and walk amongst 300 lbs white tail deer. A world from our flat land tiny and bambi deer in Florida. It isn't flat in S. Indiana. Cig definitely can't recruit. Mark Cuban has never been their top booster. Cig has great coordinators who stick around. They are great at evals.They brought in a higher level athlete this portal that aren't as experienced or familiar with their traits. Good luck with that. Zero chance they are in this with Brewster. Now UF, that is a threat to TT. I have said, UF is spending and if he is big enough to them, they could get stupid. They could get A&M and LSU on 1 player.
 
It's a completely different ball game in this era.

High school recruiting doesn't determine long term success & can be supplemented by mass Portal hauls.

Indiana didn't win the Natty because they had 3 straight top 5 classes, they won because they loaded up in the Portal & assembled Defense strong enough to carry their Offense.

Them winning the Natty puts them in the spotlight for higher ranked recruits than they'd ever have a chance with, but its not going to be the cornerstone of their program.

Indiana will never be a top High School recruiting program, they'll get a couple Blue-Chippers, then put most of their aim into hitting high premiums on Portal scouting.

But the reason why we've seen teams like TTech, Indiana, Ole Miss, AZ ST etc, compete & make the playoffs has very little to do with HS recruiting.
