University of Miami head men’s basketball coach Jai Lucas announced Tuesday that he has hired Charlton Young as associate coach.

Young, a Miami native, brings almost three decades of Division I coaching experience to the Hurricanes basketball program. He has been a part of nine NCAA Tournaments and two regular-season conference titles, while coaching 15 NBA Draft picks, including Patrick Williams, Scottie Barnes and Thaddeus Young.

“C.Y. is a South Florida legend with 30 years’...

Does anyone in the know have thoughts or do you think young can be a solid assistant and support on staff for Lucas?

CY should be a great fit. I think he'll prove to be the best recruiter on the staff and without question is the most experienced. What separates CY from a lot of other "great recruiters" is his eye for talent. He knows what a talented basketball player looks like and will usually identify them a lot earlier than others. Doesn't just settle on the 5 stars. Has done a tremendous job recruiting Florida. Don't think anyone has done a better job over the last 10 years or so.

P.S. Marcus Allen should be next!

Could have had Brey. Solid hire, but when the first thing everyone says about every hire is “Great Recruiter”, that’s a bit concerning, especially for a first time HC. Who’s the tactician on staff? Ironically enough, I would have loved this staff under someone like L, who struggled with talent acquisition at times but could develop and teach at a high level.

You aren’t going to consistently outtalent people at Miami, unless the school makes an unprecedented financial commitment to the program, a commitment that is above and beyond what even the blue bloods are willing to spend.

Young is widely considered to be one of the best AHC's in CBB. Is he a great recruiter too? Yes, but that's the only thing he's good at.

This is a huge addition to the staff. Great recruiter, local ties, and has HC experience.

Huge addition? Maybe.

But when you compare "what we got" (in both staff and players) and what we were told was "just about to happen" from the Jai Support Squad, there is an absolute deficit.

It's just yet another humorous observation of the absolute liars who have been telling us that Brey and Flint were going to be on this staff.

What's pathetic is that you're going to keep punching air in your ongoing and futile attempt to validate an agenda that has always been completely uninformed.

Young has been a top assistant in the sport for several years and has HC experience. Pastrana was arguably the top assistant and recruiter for another SEC program that was just in the tournament. We could resurrect the corpse of John Wooden and add him to the staff but you'll still come running back here crying that 'you Jai truthers told me we were hiring Brey and Flint!!!'.

I for one get a laugh at how mad this is all making you.

I hear you, but CY >>>>> Flint.

This is no slight on CY, but let's make no mistake, he's made a name for himself as an assistant coach off evaluating talent and recruiting.

No doubt Brey would've eased some concerns, but it's not like we're talking about him being one of the great basketball minds out there. I too am not sure who will be grabbing the clipboard in crucial moments. I'm assuming it'll be Lucas. I guess we'll find out soon enough if he's up for it. Agree with you wholeheartedly on wishing to see Coach L with this staff. Makes you wonder what could've been. One last thing, from what I'm hearing there is already an unprecedented financial commitment to the program. Not too many programs out there will have the financial backing Miami currently has. These guys are pretty much working with a blank check.

What a ridiculous post.

What is truly pathetic is how YOU spent weeks glued to "trilly donovan", telling us about all the assistant coaching candidates that were NOT ultimately coming to Miami. While I was one of the first posters to mention Charlton Young, because my information comes from people at UM, not some random ****** website. You are so desperate to seem knowledgeable and connected that you drive yourself to post rumors 24-7. I simply keep my mouth shut when I don't know, and I say something when I do know.

As for your stupid comments about my "agenda", tell me what that agenda is again? I was sitting behind the UM bench from 1986 onward, I want nothing more than to see my alma mater win games. My "agenda" is having the best-qualified and most-successful coaches and players to make those wins happen.

The reality is that you copied-and-pasted rumors from a non-UM website and then belittled anyone who had superior information and/or a different opinion from yours. Now you are insulting people on the football board and telling them that they don't know anything.

So this is about YOU. It's not "personal", it's just an observation that you have a terrible combination of bad information, arrogance, condescension, and ridiculous conclusions.

In many ways, I agree with you. And as long as nobody DISTORTS what I say, and claims I said things I never said, I've been pretty direct and consistent.

I like Charlton Young, but we were promised bigger names (both coaches and players). You may think Young is better than Flint, and I can respect your differing opinion (unlike another porster or two). Young has some good accomplishments, and I'll be curious to see if he will be as good or better at Miami. But Flint is the "bigger name", and while that may not make a difference in the long run, it certainly points out the difference between porsters who read rumor-mill websites all day vs. people with actual information.

But as for the "financial backing", while it is certainly "unprecedented" for UM, there will be plenty of programs out there that have the same financial backing or better.

I'd be all for investing the money into resurrecting Wooden's corpse instead of paying out NIL
