jaelan phillips = chase young

Dont quite envision someone going from quitting football to potentially giving up millions risking another unpaid collegiate season.

Just wouldn't add up given the level he's playing at. You'd have to truly LOVE football to come back.

The main difference between Chase Young and Jaelen Phillips is the defensive line Coach Larry Johnson. Phillips plays with a helluva motor but his pass rush moves aren't as refined as Young's. That's due to Young being taught by the best dline coach in college football in Johnson.
Young will be a bust considering where he was drafted. No quick first step and he can't get off blocks at all. The way they were speaking about him u would think he was Bosa

... and if Miami was a Playoff-bound team annually, like Bama and Clemson, more of these guys would stay.

Not too many kids are going to risk their bodies to come back to a Miami program that has reached the ACC title game once in 17 seasons.

Need too start winning big with the guys the Canes have, when the Canes have them, before talented guys start coming back for senior seasons (with shots at national titles.)
Catch 22. If they continue to leave it lessons the chance of reaching title games.

I couldn't ask a surefire first rounder to come back.
i've looked at a few draft boards after reading your comment and no where is he a first rounder ... i think we may be forgetting the amount of first rounders that have opted out ... that being said he's been through alot however the table is set

I didn't say he was. I'm just saying that I couldn't ask one to come back. There are very few that fall into that category. By and large, I think it more important get everything you can out of your college years and collect more than go early and find yourself out of work.

I wish we could keep most of our JRs bc we can make a run at the acccg with king back but most will prob leave us as always

Philips was also retired at one point. He’s no chase but he’s still got a high ceiling, he’s still raw.

He might be a R1 player right now. He is certainly playing like it.

6.5 sacks. 5 sacks in the last 3 games. He will likely get 1-2 versus UNC. If Miami still plays GaTech, add another 1-2. Bowl game another 1-2 (he's that hot right now and you can tell in his play on the field its BAG SZN, playing with purpose). He's going to be a 10+ sack guy.

He's already at 14 TFL with 9.5 in the past 3 games. He's cooking with gas rn and playing with cero miedo.

I would love for him to come back. I think 2021 could be special with D'Eriq King and Jaelan Phillips coming back to Coral Gables...but this man is about to become a millionaire and he should go.

K'Lavon Chaisson went mid-R1. He was unrefined but all sorts of traits on traits on traits and twitch for days. I don't see why Phillips isn't in the same mold with similar draft stock. Go be a millionaire and thanks for balling out in a 10-1 season and go beat up the gators or the aggie cuck on your way out.
He would have 2 more sacks if he didn’t get booted out of FSU game.

As of right now Philips is a second , third rounder. He lacks much film , had injury issues and is still raw. He comes back he’s possibly the number one overall player and makes a lot more money. That’s what guys at Ohio state , bama and Clemson normally do. But we’ll see. It’s his decision and maybe his injury past makes him jump.

Agree with Cribby. He should get Insurance, refine his craft further and prove he's durable for another season so that he gets drafted in the first round next year. If he goes this year, his draft position will NOT reflect his talent and he'll leave a ton of money on the table.

Until a player for us does that I’ll always believe they are leaving. I’m hoping manny can sell these dudes the thought of coming back and making a run at Clemson and the playoff

Phillips should be a first rounder this year. If he came back next year he would be in discussion for the #1 overall pick which IMO he could easily obtain if he did come back and dominate. Looking at the money difference from a top 5 pick compared to the rest of the first round it is a big difference but Im not going say he shouldn’t enter the draft either. I get It for sure

Phillips has had essentially one COVID shortened season working under Stroud. The improvement from week one until now is night and day. His hands are violent, he’s mastered the swim and the rip. He’s no longer just trying to run around the blocker. He plays like an NFL DE now. I think he could have a Chase Young type of season with an extra year of work.
