Hendon Hooker Tennessee Volunteers



Impressive looking athlete with the desired height to play the position. Owns a leaner build now, but could eventually get up to 220 pounds or more. One of the more unique quarterback prospects in the class of 2022 given ability to run the football. Has already eclipsed the 100-yard mark rushing in 14 different varsity games. Still developing as a passer, but started to show some improvement the spring after junior season. Has no issues getting the ball to all different levels of the field. Likes to use trajectory to his advantage, especially on his deep shots. More of a drive-ball thrower, but capable of making off-plane throws on the run. Streaky player that’s not afraid to challenge tight windows, but struggles at times with accuracy and tends to make some of the easiest throws the most difficult. Tested exceptionally well before his senior season clocking a 4.6 in the 40-yard dash and a 4.4 in the short shuttle. Long stride allows him to pull away from defenses. Not afraid, however, to lower his shoulder and power through defenders, if needed. Considered a leader by those in his huddle and has won plenty of big games on Friday nights playing in one of the Peach State’s highest classifications. Will need to find some touch and keep improving his mechanics, but raw tools are valuable at the quarterback position, and he has a ton of them. Should be viewed as a high-ceiling, low-floor prospect that can make a difference at the Power 5 level with patience and the right coaching. Likely to thrive in an offensive system that embraces dual-threat quarterbacks and leans on his strengths.

Well when the run game's working and you're able to sprinkle in some pass attempts the circumstance is ideal for a young qb. But what happens when the run-oriented attack is stuffed and your playing from behind? We'll probably find out Saturday.

This, the future is now, too many of our faNz egghead the ****. I"ve even heard some fAnZ suggest that Brown should RS next year so TVD can get the starting nod, dumbest string of poRstS in CIS history. First off all, Brown wouldn't make that decision, and even if Brown made that decision, then ****, He'd be the biggest cuck in history since Jimbo.

I don’t see TVD coming back this year, and it wouldn’t make sense anyway. I like what I see from JB, he should start the next two or three games, depending on whether we get into a bowl. And then in the spring it can be an open competition.

Personally that’s what I would like to see. And I would give him the odds to win the spring competition, but whoever wins it is fine with me. But I like what I see. He’s not perfect, but like I said in another post, do you remember how bad a passer Jalen Hurts was his freshman year? He was horrible. I’m not saying JB is anywhere near Jalen hurts, that’s too tall of a hurdle, Jalen hurts is a starting quarterback for an undefeated NFL team. But I am saying people can improve in their passing technique, it’s been done before, it’s not unheard of.

Maybe I’m caught up in the running style but he looks exactly like Hendon Hooker running. Obviously he’s not on Hendon Hooker level as a passer. He just has to keep progressing.

I don’t want him to burn years when he’s not ready and right now he’s not ready.

This is where we get into trouble as fans. We set these unreasonable expectations and then we tear the people down when they don’t meet them. He’s only one person and that’s JB. Hopefully he develops, because I think he’s got a huge amount of potential.

Also, physically, he’s nothing like Lamar Jackson. He might have some of his his speed, but completely different body type.

The degree of improvement with accuracy will likely determine Brown's ceiling. And I know we should expect  some improvement with that skill. Any experts out there care to weigh-in on the likelihood of a qb that struggles with accuracy developing into a big-timer. I understand every case is different, but generally speaking.

He’s certainly more Vince young than Lamar Jackson. But I hesitate from making any comparisons other than when it comes to specific traits. For example he’s tall like Vince Young, but he also seems to be to have a bigger upper body, somewhat thicker. Also he needs to be more accomplished as a passer, which hopefully will happen with game experience, practice, and off-season training.

After Manny was fired, Jacurri spoke with Mario and was concerned about the type of OC that Mario would hire. Supposedly Jacurri told Mario that he wanted to play in a spread offense and would look elsewhere if Miami was going to go to a more traditional system. Apparently Mario told Jacurri that we would still run a spread offense and not to worry. Take it for what it's worth.

Huh? This season, Hurts is having the better year.

Now if you're talking strictly college, Hurts developed in a way we hope Brown will. But floor? Hurts had a **** good final campaign at Oklahoma.
While I'm hopeful Brown develops, and does so more quickly than Hurts did in college (as a passer), it's not a lock (floor), imo.
 
I see it like this. We need WRs that can get separation and catch balls. Look at Kirk Cousins this year. He's been awful, Gets Jefferson and they are killing it together. Brady and Rodgers have gone the other way because the lack of playmaker WRs. A team is only as good as your QB and the QB needs to have WRs to be successful. And a OLine

Brown just looks like a man out there as a FRESHMAN. Most athletically gifted quarterback plus measurables I can remember for Miami. Can you imagine how this kid will look as a junior? Probably 20lbs heavier.

Yes it has, thru coaching. And coaching this kid up. He has tools and smarts and physicality to excel. What he needs is coaching and remains to be seen. I think Mario will invest in him, but WTF do I know🙌🏽#CANESNATIONLIFER
