Nike MVP honor part of big offseason for Jachai Polite
After a 2014 football season that earned him quite a bit of attention, it has been a busy offseason for Jachai Polite.

The Daytona Beach Mainland defensive end, who is coming off an MVP performance among defensive linemen this past Sunday at the Nike Opening Regional camp in Kissimmee, has seen his scholarship numbers rise to eight and they keep coming in.

So far, Polite, the No. 3-ranked player in the Sentinel's 2016 Central Florida Super60, has offers from UCF, USF, FAU, Iowa State, Marshall, North Carolina, NC State and West Virginia.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Polite says he is pleasantly surprised by the number of offers he has at this point.

"It wouldn't matter if I [just] had one," Polite said. "I wouldn't think I would have eight offers."

He recently attended Junior Day events at the University of Miami and Florida State and is hoping one of those schools might pull the trigger soon.

His performance Sunday gave Polite a big boost and made a few peers among defensive linemen take notice.

"It feels great. It goes to show that you can compete with any star, anybody, it doesn't matter how big they are," said Polite.

Polite's MVP performance, however, was not enough to gain him an invitation to the coveted summer event The Opening at Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

Altogether, eight players from Sunday's Orlando-area camp earned invites to Oregon in LB Jonathan Jones of Orlando Oak Ridge, OL Baveon Johnson of Lakeland Lake Gibson, three Bradenton IMG Academy players in FSU commit TE Isaac Nauta (originally of Buford, Ga.), LB Rahshaun Smith (Towson, Md., Calvert Hall) and RB Tony Jones (St. Petersburg Catholic), Alabama commit ATH Demetris Robertson of Savannah (Ga.) Christian Prep, LSU commit QB Feleipe Franks of Crawfordville Wakulla and DB Chauncey Gardner of Cocoa.

The other position MVP at the Nike regional camp Sunday were position MVP honors Sunday was WR Dock Luckie of Gainesville.

Well now let's see what happens 2016 DE Jachai Polite has landed a UM offer an according to Canesports is high on Miami.

But here is the thing UF is also recruiting the young man but taking a more wait an see approach, telling him they want to see him at their camp an they will also evaluate how he does during his senior year. Polite seemed to really enjoy his UF visit last week.

I will tell you this Chris Rumph is a monster recruiter, so lets see what happens.

i'd say we lead atm, we're the only team definitely in his top 5 doesn't know who else will be there according to him.

I used to play Pop Warner with him and his brother. His brother plays at the Citadel. The kids a stud, and Mainland has been producing a lot of kids lately. Most notably Leonard Williams and Quinton Powell to USC but they also sent a safety to FSU last cycle. Rumor is that the program likes to tell kids to commit somehwere early to draw in more offers and interest(if that makes sense).

I wouldn't be surprised by the early commitment tactic, those Volusia county boys ain't loyal but hopefully Polite has better morals than that (pun intended).

per 247 he almost committed to UM whilst on Campus but held off because his parents weren't there. He's since spoken to his parents and they both agree he should commit to Miami. says he'll "probably make the move next week."
