Becker is legit 6'4 with 22.5 mph speed on the field. He is their main deep guy and a PROBLEM for sure. Digging into a couple of their games, their offense as a whole is impressive, their Oline runblocking is dam good and their RB run HARD. TO ME, their oline pass blocking is FOOD but they mitigate that by staying ahead of chains and RPO heavy in pass game (Highest % of RPO use in nation). Their WR core as a whole is very good, especially in the confines of their system. But Becker is a player avg 20 yards a catch, Sarratt is physical at the catch point and contested catch.

In true pass protection situations I have seen them struggle, Right side especially, Tackle got benched in OSU game, RG is leaky also. LT is usually solid but he had real trouble with Kenyatta Jackson and by second half was essentially tackling him with no flags thrown. We got to by physical and sound in run game because they are pretty diverse and force them into playing some type of traditional drop back. Im taking my guysm 10 out of 10.
My biggest concern in a gameplan is their RB combination of Hemby and Black - with a particular concern for Black against us bc of his style. I’d focus a ton on that aspect and bracket Becker as much as is feasible. What should have been our Louisville gameplan, but obviously elevated and focused.

Becker is a deep ball guy. Very few underneath stuff. He isn’t JJ so I’d be willing to take my chances with o Conner Brown OJ or Lucas so long as we are sending pressure. Sarratt is the back shoulder fade WR with some deep shots as well but not a burner.
100% need to stop the run. That would be my primary focus. Stop the run and deep threats. Force Mendoza to read the defense and get 5-10 a play. They aren’t Ole Miss who could score every drive. They have a kicker who is good under 50. They can be stopped in the red zone. They do give up pressure on Mendoza and he does have wheels along with a good spin move for a QB. Just hope one of our guys levels him when he tries that spin.

I’m with you on the primary focus being stopping the run. I wrote that in a prior post.

I’m not totally with you on Becker. I’ve watched them use him in creative ways. Up the seam and to the post from the inside most worrisome. 50/50 balls in isolation. Etc.

I’ll watch more this week, but I think he boxes defenders out or wins 50/50s with body control as well as I’ve seen this season. I would not consistently expect him to be left in isolation with any of those outside corners.

I’d expect them to, again, find matchups for him - some of those against our LBs (in terms of depth) and Safeties. Heck, if you play him inside a bit, and run corners, we just got smoked by a lesser talent (TE) in Ole Miss.

They’ll try to control us through RPOs, and it’s up to Hetherman (or our DL) to hit Mendoza and disrupt rhythm. Get Moten a hyperbaric chamber for 2 weeks.

Knock Mendoza all the way back to mommy and daddy house

This kid is going to be an absolute stud. As noted earlier, his pass break up on the sideline where he raked the ball out the WRs hands is absolute teach tape - for that young man to perform how he did when he was suddenly thrown into the fire in the game that sends us to the National Championship tells you everything you need to know about what kind of player we have.

Side note: I’m all orange and green BUT his DPI was a good call - the infuriating part is that those B10 officials absolutely ignored at least 2 DPI calls against us in the 2nd half. Then you see the O’Conner dropped INT but BEFORE that pass was ever thrown Bain was absolutely undressed (pause) by the OT….so the pass should have never been thrown, likely is a strip sack from QBs blind side.

So when you see JA get called for that one, it feels like they “owe” us a couple, which unfortunately isn’t gonna happen at that stage of the game.
