”I’m still wide open right now,” Jabari Ellis. “I’m just taking my time with the recruiting process."
The 6-foot-5, 286-pound Ellis holds offers from Appalachian State, Charlotte, Miami, Georgia Southern, South Carolina State and Toledo among others. He is also attracting interest from Minnesota and Penn State.
Ellis’ most recent visit was to Miami.
”I went down for a few days last month and it was a good visit,” he said. “I got to learn a lot about the school. I was also really impressed with the environment and the coaching staff.”
”The coaches were telling me that they wanted me to be a Miami Hurricane. They told me I could come in and be a factor. The visit helped Miami.”

What’s next for Ellis?
”I’d like to commit before the season starts,” he said. “If I pick up some more offers between now and then, that may push it back, though.
”The main factors are going to be my relationship with the coaching staff, the atmosphere at the school and how I fit into their system.”

"Miami was cool, but after taking some time after the visit, you gotta really take a subjective look at the merits of that school against prestigious programs like App State, Georgia Southern and South Carolina State. Really going to be tough to call. Very torn."

Committed to Appalachian State over Miami, **** you can't make this stuff up.

Two Gators announce their college football plans

“App. State gets overlooked, but it’s a good school and a good football program,” Ellis said. “Miami is a bigger name program, but it’s not about the name.

“App. State promised me I can come in and play as a true freshman. They play in a nice conference. They aren’t a program to sleep on. And they are a college that’s not far from home here. We (Walker and Ellis) just wanted to make our announcements today so we can focus on the big game (with O-W) tomorrow.”

Ellis was still receiving calls from Miami Hurricanes coaches and other college programs as recently as Wednesday night, as the recruiting process continued. But, knowing he wanted to play for the Mountaineers in Boone, North Carolina, Ellis wanted to make it public before his final season of high school football.

SANTEE, S.C. — Jabari Ellis, a defensive tackle, made a verbal commitment to Appalachian State Thursday, according to a South Carolina newspaper.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg, S.C., reported that Ellis, a 6-foot-2, 280-pound defensive tackle from Lake Marion High School in Santee, S.C., chose App State over Miami (Fla.), South Carolina, Georgia Southern and Charlotte.

“App State gets overlooked, but it’s a good school and a good football program,” Ellis told the Times and Democrat sports editor Chris Clark. “Miami is a bigger name program, but it’s not about the name.”

“App State promised me, I can come in and play as a true freshman. They play in a nice conference. They aren’t a program to sleep on. And they are a college that’s not far from home here,” Ellis said in the newspaper article.

Ellis is a three-star prospect according to the 247/Sports website.

His prep teammate, Manny Walker (6-4, 210) announced that he was committing to Wake Forest. He chose the Demon Deacons from a field that included Penn State and Georgia.

The two football players made their announcements at a school assembly, according to the Times and Democrat.
