I've got news for ya...Miami is winning this weekend

I have always felt this will be a close game, which is why I hate the distraction this has all become. It's that little bit of focus that's the difference between starting fast or getting behind early.

I mean I thought GT was a trap game all along and we would lose bc u know we’re Miami and it’s what we do but **** man we had it won and that happened. Now Miami goes 1 of 2 ways they get blown out by unc and it’s the same old Miami or they beat unc idk if there’s an in between where they ply tough and lose close

UNC has arguaby been the gnarliest thorn in our side since 2004, although UVA, GT and VT have strong cases.

Miami is 8-11 vs UNC since 2004
Miami has won 3 out of 9 contests at UNC.
Miami is 2-6 in the last 8 meetings.
Miami has lost to UNC 4 times in a row.
Van Dyke threw 3 INTs in his only start at UNC.
Van Dyke threw for 496 yards, 3 TDs vs UNC in 2022.
None of this matters and I hope Miami wears white/white.

Our immediate history with UNC puts Miami's output over the course of the past 20 years into perspective where we are at in the rank and file of the ACC.

As a 7-5 on-average program, our inability to beat UNC over the past 4 years, and being under .500 against them since 04 puts us in better context...we're below not only the Clemson's of the world, but behind the second tier of the ACC like UNC...7-12 against Florida State since 2004...8-11 against GaTech, 11-8 against UVA, 10-9 against VaTech...3-3 against Louisville, 2-3 against BC...in recent vintage, we've gone 3-3 against Duke.

The teams we've been able to beat regularly - NC State, Pitt, Wake Forest, Syracuse (we only played them once)...give you some perspective on where Miami has been as a program. Middling in the ACC is probably understating it a bit. We've been trading wins with the mid of the ACC for a LONG time. We're just another mid-ACC program until we're not.

Wake Forest has won the ACC, and been in the ACCCG twice.
Pitt has won the ACC and been the ACCCG twice.
GaTech has won the ACC and been in the ACCCG four times.
VaTech is 3-3 in ACCCGs.
UNC and BC both 0-2 in ACCCG.
Miami is tied with Duke and UVA at 0-1 in ACCCG.

This is us, unfortunately. We're just another ACC team until we're not.

Have done a ton of reading all takes here on CIS and trying to get my head right about where I think we are Really going to be this week.

Trying not to knee jerk mope, but 4 days later I can't escape that we are getting straight boatraced, like 45-10 bad, like 38-17 at best bad.

All the compensatory points made ring kinda hollow and some of the real heads are pointing out some problematics. My lying eyes vs. GT, regardless of THE call and officiating laid bare the flaws we knew might rear....I just didn't think they were going to vs. GT - THIS TIME because we had looked so good and were getting mad strokin'.

Having seen what we didn't against GT - after we steamrolled lessers and had an up game vs. ATM early season....I still feel like we're holding a bag of Fool's Gold.

Just can't shake that 2 decades of PTSD; that much as I want to acknowledge some real progress in year 2, I think it's more likely that we get folded and implode to the preseason 5-7 to 7-5 season areas than we are to go on some miraculous run.

Mario having lost the locker room;
TVDud's reliance on luck and X;
Smelling our own farts against Brigham Young Episcopalian and getting exposed by GT;
Mids Run game against good teams, passing game figured out by ACC foes;
Guidry defense holding up for most of a game against good opponents, but needing offense to be straight fire - GT didn't inspire confidence.

Countered with:
Maybe TVD didn't revert more than this one game to the same shell he did in 22 multiple times against teams with a pulse;
Maybe Dawson was looking ahead and playing hide the sheet;
Maybe we did need to get high on our own farts to get smacked back into toughness that was starting to show;
Maybe we are a wounded animal that cares and shows up.

I wanna be wrong so bad, but I am gonna mope until I can't - and am mad AF that I was starting to believe and got rug-pulled with a really BAD overall game vs. GT that looked a whole lot like the last 2 decades of Miami that's made me a mope.

So ur saying we’re due for a W

Very overdue, especially because we've handed them at least one game on sheer stupidity in 2019 (4th & 17) and I could argue one of 2021 or 2022 were corched to defeat.

I mean I thought GT was a trap game all along and we would lose bc u know we’re Miami and it’s what we do but **** man we had it won and that happened. I circled that one as well because crappy opponents off of a bye week have been our Achilles heel for decades. It was flashing red when we got off to a good start, too, because Miami has a tendency to lose all focus and humility and start penciling in Ws. I didn't think we would lose, but I felt we would have to grind out a W to escape, which we 99.99999% did.

Sidebar-- but relevant: Isn't amazing how when our opponents suffer an embarrassing loss they always get it together for us? I have yet to see a Miami team come off an embarrassment in a blood-thirsty rage, focused and willing to leave it all on the field. That would be a real treat.

Our D will bring it & give us a good chance to win (although it will be a tough test).

What we’ll see on offense is the bigger question mark. Hoping we don’t get overly conservative in an attempt to limit turnovers. Things that could really make a difference on O:

• TVD has to come into this game confident in his abilities. He simply needs to distribute the ball effectively to the open man & let his playmakers do the heavy lifting.

• Would be huge if Arroyo is back & a key component of the offense. Target Riley as well.

• Be more diverse in the run game. We ran some great blocking schemes early in the season. Let’s see more of that.

• Play CJ more. If he’s got a hot hand, ride it. Other than TVD, he has the potential to cause them more problems on D than anyone else. Use that weapon (especially if our OL is opening some big holes). Need some explosives from the run game to outscore them.

• Be more diverse on offense. Mix in a little Brashard & Ray Ray. Use Ladson a little to move the chains (Frank has shown he can be dependable in ACC play).

• Put the ball in Harrell’s hands & let him burn (there are at least a few ways to do that).

We need to put pressure on them in every phase & keep the pedal down…until we go into victory formation.🙂

To be fair, the "nobody" South Carolina squad that Carolina beat by 2 touchdowns and held to -2 rushing yards, lead Georgia by 2 touchdowns at halftime. They went on to lose that game by 10.

Also, App State is not exactly a "nobody". They can be a pretty legit squad.
Well they did lose to Wyoming 🤷‍♂️

Brother, I get you, but the stats don't say they are solid. If we were #46 in the nation and averaging 4.19 yards per carry, I feel like you would be *****ing. BTW: Miami is 13th in rushing and averaging 5.7 yards per carry (9th in the nation).
Now let him know what our Run D ranks. It will probably blow his mind.

Yeah this is where I’ve been at. I’ve said for a while, let’s see what this team looks like after UNC game.

But it **** sure wasn’t because I thought we’d lose to GT.

With that said, going into this season most of us were looking at 8-4 as a pretty reasonable record. The 4-0 start got us dreaming though.

But I think we’ve unfortunately grounded ourselves with 8-4 and fringe top 25 team being the most likely outcome IMO.

Everyone's sleeping on our defensive performance, giving up only 175 yards prior to the kneeling disaster. GT had just under 500 yards of offense against the other 2 ranked teams they played.
That tends to happen when the defense gives up 75 yards, including a game-winning TD in the final 30 seconds.

Those of us who have been around for a while know that the “coming out in a rage” after a loss thing ended back in 2003 and hasn’t been seen since. Canes lost to Va Tech and then managed to score a whole 6 points in a home loss to Tennessee the next game. Nothing has been right since.

So that’s how it is until proven otherwise.

Lost to Tennessee....as Berlin missed a WIDE open Winslow in the EZ.....I'm still livid...
