They all probably coached high school too at some point, so what? Most of the so-called great MAC coaches had intermediate jobs before they landed the big time.

Is Miami an intermediate job now?
 
Can't wait for Justin Fuente's test against Ole miss this year. Fuente will also go head to head against Phillip montegormory (former Baylor OC in his first year as HC at Tulsa), Chad Morris, and Tom Herman.

Side note: 3/4 never coached HS btw.

Justin Fuente's records:

2012: 4-8
2013: 3-9
2014: 10-3

Overall: 17-20


The guy has a LOSING record at MEMPHIS, and y'all want him as our coach. SMH
 
Fuente has ZERO wins against good teams. Sound familiar?

But he has losses to: Tennessee Martin, Middle Tennessee (twice), SMU, Temple, etc.

Where in my post did I say I want him as my coach? If he wins 11-12 games (and beats Ole Miss) this year, I definitely want him to get an interview and he would be on my top 3 want list with Butch.

You lauded all of these guys' resume before coming to UM but look at their records:

JJ record at OSU before UM: 29-25
Erickson at WSU: 12-10
Howard: 4-13
Lou Saban: 95-99 (NFL) & 4-6 (Maryland)

Fuentes will likely have a higher winning % than all four of those guys when the year ends.

You need to look at context. Fuentes comes from the Patterson tree and has vastly improved Memphis' program. He is reaching unprecedented status (in regards to their football program)

Between 2009-2011 (three immediate years before Fuente), they won 6 total games and 2 conference games. They finished last in the east EACH of those seasons. They also had the WORST overall record in their conference EACH of those seasons.

Jeff Brohm - His Western Kentucky Hilltoppers defeated Vanderbilt 14-12. Next opponent is Louisiana Tech.

Butch Davis - Built the greatest college football team ever. Not much more needs to be said

Doc Holliday - His Marshall Thunderingherd defeated Purdue 41-31. Next opponent Ohio

Jeremy Pruitt - Defensive Coordinator at UGA. Defense allowed 14 points to Louisiana Monroe and allowed a total of 251 yards (206 of those were passing yards).

Craig Bohl - His Wyoming Cowboys lost to North Dakota 24-13. Next opponent Eastern Michigan. Bohl was the former NDSU (North Dakota) head coach and led them to 3(?) championships in a row. This is his second year at Wyoming.

Mario Cristobal - Current Oline coach at Alabama. Former HC at FIU with an overall record of 27-47. His only real qualification is that he's a "Miami" guy.

No because Fuente did the following:

1. Won the Conference,
2. Won 10 Games, and
3. Won a Bowl Game

Some other fun facts:

1. Memphis hasn't won 10 games since before WW2
2. Memphis has't won the conference since 1971
3. Memphis lost 3 games last season. 2 of them were to #10 Ole Miss and #11 UCLA, both on the road

Fuente did the following:

1. Won the Conference, The MAC. Dozen coaches won their crappy D3 conferences last year
2. Won 10 Games, and But still has losses to Middle Tennessee, Temple, etc. Al Golden won 9 games. Who cares. Win 10 games several years in a row and I'll be impressed
3. Won a Bowl Game Half the teams in college football won their **** bowl game last year.

Some other fun facts:

1. Memphis hasn't won 10 games since before WW2 Temple....Golden....yada yada
2. Memphis has't won the conference since 1971 Golden.....Temple....sigh
3. Memphis lost 3 games last season. 2 of them were to So, no signature wins. See, in contrast, look at what Urban Meyer did at Utah

Fuente has definitely earned a lot of respect after last season. He replicates that success again; he easily will be a prime candidate for a big job. He learned under Paterson and is under 40. Someone is going to take him and it is easy to see why they would.
