ITT We Discuss Possible Golden Replacements

I was never bothered by him saying he was staying until he left. Back then, I actually thought it helped minimize negative repercussions with the recruiting class. Besides, what was he supposed to say until he had a deal?

Present day proves you can't just say nothing without ****ing people off (I don't blame a Golden for saying nothing either). I recall that, back then, one of the criticisms was that he should have said nothing.

I wasn't even aware of Butch's side of the story back then. So, I've never had anything to forgive with him--until his UNC teams started beating us. :)

His understanding of how to win at Miami is unparalleled.

His eye for talent at the player level and coach level is second to none.

"His understanding of how to win at Miami is unparalleled." Funny.

He was 1-5 vs. FSU, 1-5 vs. VT, 0-2 vs. East Carolina. Lost 66-13 to Syracuse the week before beating undefeated UCLA. Short memories around here.[/QUOTE]

I love it how people ignore the facts that we were under MAJOR penalties when he came in. We had huge scholarship losses, which really affected our depth. Even then, we were in almost all of the games we played for at least a half, then our lack of depth would show. Still, those teams played with a lot of passion and heart, even though they were seriously depleted.

Different story from Al's tenure. He was not severely crippled by scholarship losses. His teams played flat, uninspired football, especially in the big games.

He may not be a bad fall-back option if Miami is unable/unwilling to bring on some of the bigger names thrown out there.

He was also learning to be the HNIC on the job. You dont think he turns those records against FSU and VT around between 02-05 if he stays? I bet he would have. That Syracuse team beat a sophomore ladden team that was not ready for primetime with one of Syracuse all time talented team that vastly underachieved. They clobbered Michigan in Ann Arbor earlier that year and lost to Tenn (national champ) in a game that went to the last play. His last team finished de facto number 2 and should have played OU for the ship. In each of his two stints as an assistant (and recruiting coordinator) and head coach, he left a roster that was loaded with NFL talent and depth galore. If he comes back... sweet jesus....

Just for Sh*ts and Gigs:

HC/TE Coach - Rob Chudzinski
OC/QB Coach - James Coley
DC - Randy Shannon :~)

Assistant HC - Art Kehoe

RB Coach - No Clue. Maybe Clinton Portis?

WR Coach/Quality Control Coach - Scott Turner (Norv's son)

OL Coach - Mike Sullivan

DL Coach/National Recruiting Coordinator - Clint Hurtt

LB Coach/FL Recruiting Coordinator - Michael Barrow

DB Coach - Mike Rumph

I think that's a quality staff that's also realistic.

Ya'll think Randy Shannon would ever come back? Say we offered him DC position + National Recruiting Coordinator + Higher Salary. Right now, he is the LB coach at Arkansas. I think he might consider coming back depending on the approach. He and Chud are tight.

Don't see James Coley going anywhere. Excellent recruiter and wants to stay in south florida. I can see Chud taking over the play calling duties, but Coley will be back.

Not sure if Hurtt would be allowed back after being part of the investigation, but if he is that would be great.

It's not about style. It's about a general philosophy of continuous improvement and iteration to place players in the best position possible. A South Florida athlete, especially, will always be at his best when he's put in the position to play fast and furiously.

HC Rob Chudzinski
QB/OC Ken Dorsey (currently with Panthers)
RB Hurlie Brown
WR Lamar Thomas (currently at Western Kentucky)
OL Mike Sullivan (Let go by Browns)
TE Brennan Carrol

DC Jim Leavitt
DL Kevin Patrick (Unemployed was with USF)
LB Mike Barrow
DB Mike Rumph

Wow. I mean wow. Talk about a bunch of reaches.
