No thanks on Butch, i feel folks are enamored with butch just because of his past & for nostalgia sake..

wrong. stop with that. the "butch will never coach here again" isn't all that hard and fast. quit regurgitating what others say.

Better chance at Bigfoot getting the job.

Exactly. Not happening, zero chance , stop wasting time.

Just like the Leach legion last time time around.

He has to be our #1 target assuming AL is gone. The only home run hire out there, imo.

Do you really think Shalala will hire butch? I think he's a pipe dream because of her and the national perception she wants to portray at Miami.

Cribby,

Why do you say he won't coach here? I'm well aware of his prior tenure here and his perceived baggage, but none of it seems that bad.

What coach's style (preferably one that may be a candidate if Al leaves) on D would best fit the talent in SF?

I know Schiano is known for his D, but my football knowledge when it comes to schemes is garbage so I don't know if his style would necessarily be a good fit.

I'd prefer if it was a HC or DC who you could see getting brought in, and the one thing I do know is that I'd want someone who plays some aggressive man to man as opposed to quarters. Drop some knowledge on me gentlemen

I don't think Butch has a negative national perception.

In fact, he's proven he can clean up a program as he did in the mid to late 90s.

I guess this doesn't really have to be a golden replacement thread since we have a ****show of one already, but maybe more of a wet dream thread

From a Carolina alum and minor sports program athlete, only speaking to UNC/Butch issues, not prior:

1. The "tutor" came from the academic department that Thorp headed at the time she started. She was not athletic dept. personnel. These are available to all athletes.

2. Baddour resigned rather than fire someone he felt was unfairly being targeted.

3. Thorp caved to the pressure of "you fire him or else" from the UNC system board (encompassing NC State, UNC-, UNC-Wilmington, etc, not just UNC-CH).

4. The paper classes were taken by overwhelmingly non-sports team students. Doesn't make it right for anyone. But all schools have "Rocks for Jocks" or other such easy classes, and all students try to get at least one while in school. Again in place long before Butch came and not an athletic department function or responsibility to monitor.

Butch was the fall-guy for Thorp and the academicians who feared for the school's reputation, which, in my opinion, made them look worse. And the actual culprits have now been charged.

As with Jim Valvano, factors beyond his control brought him down. Jimmy V was also found to not have been culpable, as he couldn't know his kids were selling their stuff (the only thing the NCAA ended up hanging on NC State).

Good guy gets smeared with the crap created by others.

UNC FVCKED BUTCH, not the other way around. FWIW
