It's Time To Get That Stadium Done

stupidest thing i've read regarding a new stadium yet. yeah, let's build this stadium to have a solid college gameday atmosphere and take tailgating out of the equation.

There is NO way we have a stadium with open air parking. Not happening. Even the Marlins have garages.

Again, what is it you guys are asking for? It sounds like Sun-Life is what you want. I'm trying to give you ideas for a Bobby Dodd or similar stadium, and you want Sun-Life next to Mark Light...

To the next idiot that brings up "Coral Gables won't allow a stadium"

NEWSFLASH: UM is right on the very frigging border of Coral Gables, across 57th Avenue (which is NOT Coral Gables) there is another city called South Miami that may be more accommodating.

There is a several block warehouse area there, right along the Metrorail, which would be ideal for a stadium.

South Miami won't allow it. Waste of time.

Really? Because run down warehouses and tow yards are such an income stream?

Build it without parking, and force people to park in Dadeland/South Miami and other parking garages.

It has nothing to do with warehouses, tow yards, or income. First, those warehouses are actually all full of functioning businesses.

Second, if they gave Epiphany **** 20 years ago about the size of their church, what do u think they are going to do with regards to a stadium.

Third, South Miami has zero interest in having a stadium within its city limits. It strives to and is continuing planning on being a suburb with businesses that cater to wealthy stay at home moms.

Agree with what you said, nope44, it will be difficult.

BTW Epiphany is not in South Miami, that's unincorp Miami-Dade. South Miami city limit is 57th Ave.

That's exactly the point. They aren't within city limits and still exerted influence. And the city limit isn't on either side of 57th, unless it recently changed. It's divided by street as opposed to avenues in that specific area.

Actually I was wrong, they have some, but not all, on the west side of 57th past 80th.

Did anyone hear Hurricane Howard's comments on the radio prior to the FAU game?
He went on about some former players having discussions with UM regarding a stadium.
Anyone have an "in" on this??

Look what Baylor did for their school. Baylor is roughly the same sized school (16000 enrollment), small, private. They opened up a new 45,000 seat stadium that expands to 55,000 if they need it. I think it cost $230 mm? Surely something like that is possible for us

construction costs in waco are way lower than miami. that kind of project would be $350 million+ easily for us.

The construction cost we be more like $500 to $700 million in Miami.

tropical park.

This. Multiplied by infinity.

Perfect location in the heart of Dade county and only about 10 minutes (maybe less) from campus. The Palmetto is right there so infrastructure wise you could build an "on" and "off" ramp directly from the Palmetto to Tropical park to help curtail the traffic.

I'm sure the political activists will cite a million reasons why it can't be done...but if politics and social issues have taught us anything over the last 50 years it's that where there's a will, money, and a nice kick-back for the right politician....there's a way.

Miami should try to replicate what Baylor did with Mclane stadium. They built a 45k seat stadium for $250 million, in a familiar U shape with an open end zone (you can add bleachers for an FSU tier game to expand to 50k-55k if needed), as well as put a roof over the seat in order to both shade fans, and reflect noise back down towards the field.

To put this in perspective, UM paid $260 million for the Cedars Medical Center. Obviously it would be more expensive to build a stadium in miami, but if UM works out a deal with the city, whether it be the tropical park location or whatever, they can obtain some funding, and contribute that similar $250 million figure to the cause
