Anyone who saw our first two games this year knows that there is no possibility we steamroll Arkansas St next Saturday. Heck we were favored to beat FAMU by 46 and we only had 31 points with 5 minutes left in the 4th, barely putting up 40. It's sad to even think that this game could be close, with a small possibility of us losing. For those who don't know, Arky St is no joke and by no means should be taken lightly. They finished 8-5 last year including a bowl victory and kept it close with Tennessee yesterday. Their duel threat QB is their leading rusher, averaging more than 5 yds per carry and his completion percentage is around 64% with no INT's.
Should we win this game? Absolutely. I saw some good things from our defense last night including some more pressure by the d and linebackers and more man to man coverage. Hopefully they will continue to do this and that this was not a one time thing because it was FAMU so we can get away with it against them. The Red Wolves have allowed 5 sacks so far this year and applied pressure could get the QB to dance around and force some errant throws.
Our offense? This is a scary thought. Kaaya looks like a freshmen, afraid to throw it deep because his arm strength is equivalent to Jacory currently and throws some poor passes. The TD to Dorsett would have been picked off by any decent football team and he only seems comfortable throwing slants over the middle. Our o-line is pathetic, and Duke/Yearby will not get around the edges against mediocre teams unless the big boys create more push up front. Isidora was getting beat by FAMU all night, but it was nice to see Coley go back to Duke's strength and lead him to the outside with stretch plays and pitches. Our offensive line isn't good enough right now to run repeatedly up the gut. Coley seems frustrated with the lack of passes thrown his way and I wonder if Coley will try and get him more involved.
The cane shades and kool-aid were tossed aside immediately after the Louisville game, and I really think we will struggle in this one on the offensive side. I know many people want Miami to lose just to make a statement to Shalala and the AD, but I can't bring myself to root against us; thats just wrong. I want Golden gone just as much as you guys, and a 7-5 season should accomplish that. But a 24-17 final could be a strong possibility, and that would not suit well with the majority of canes fans.
P.S. We will get rocked by Va Tech that Thursday night in Blacksburg we may give up 8 or more sacks
