It's an opportunity, but first...

Richt clearing himself out helps. It's the best news all year, I think. But, it doesn't solve the root cause of our troubles.

This is an opportunity to be calm in the face what some may consider chaos and make a real decision on the leadership of the athletic program and how decisions get made. This program has been gifting territory and wins to other programs because, for 15 years, it has continuously forgotten its roots:

Being bold and at the cutting edge of college football (in whatever way), which is the ultimate match for our recruiting base.

I say this every single time we go through a hiring opportunity. And, so far, each time we've either reacted to our current situation or gone with perceived safety. It happens because of how the decisions have gotten made. And, before we do anything, we need to retire that failed pattern.

You're thought on Babers?

I like his offensive tree. I like how he let Dungey play his game. I think he knows how to connect with the kids we'll be recruiting. I love his locker room speeches when aired.

I don't yet know who my options are, but I know I'd stay the F* away from the big, common, easy names. I'd even hire an interim over making any decision that doesn't bring us back to our roots. I don't care if it means losing a recruiting class, season or whatever. Don't make a "safe" move. Get the **** out of this pattern. We've been given a clean slate.

With the talent on the team we should not have to lose a class or season

Can you forward this to Flake James and Frenk?

DiMare, Fain, and Miller will be pulling the strings once again while Blake colors his kids menu.

This is the same group that rejected Mullen for being too ****y. Buckle up, boys.

Seriously take that negative **** someplace else enough already
He was Florida third freaking choice don’t act like he’s the second coming of Jimmy Johnson.

The point is the AD should be making the hiring decisions, and it shouldn’t come down to whether or not a BOT member thinks a coach is a “meanie head.”

Try to keep up.

I'm a fan. He's in the mold of the guys we should be considering over the "Miami Guys" list. Again, I'm more concerned over the guys making the decision (and the process they've followed for 15 years).

Tbh, Golden was an out of the blue hire. 0 ties to the Southeast, He had just turned around Temple, had roots from a winning Penn St program...Its not enough to just "be sporadic". Gotta actually evaluate.

recruiting, recruiting, recruiting...

We need an elite recruiter to compete with every program who takes our top athletes. Hire the scheme-junkies as coordinators like JJ said.
Perfect time for Mario to get his shot.

Absolutely true, all of it....and it will be the shocker of a lifetime if it actually happens.

The problem with the Golden hire was exactly what Temple's fans told us when he was on his way here: he never did more with less. He wasn't elite at either side of the ball. He was a CEO with a seemingly secure plan and a background in a fairly passive defensive approach. It's somewhat similar to what Georgia fans said about Richt when he was on his way here.

Joking here, to be clear, but we should simulate what a coach's most recent team's fans would say and go from there...

I would like to see candidates scrutinized more then maybe has been done in the past. When you think of Richt, you have to wonder why they thought he would win when he didn't win at UGA and had access to really good talent. I want to see Babers get results without Dungey.

Big problem with Golden is when he got off script, we didn't have an AD strong enough to get him back in the sandbox. Not saying he was going to work here, but still...

Whoever it is we hire it will be just as important to allocate the money to get a first class staff behind him.

Doesn’t do any good to hire a first rate coach and then give him chump change to hire a staff like we had here.

I have been saying the same thing for decades.

Schematic innovation is helpful, but we won’t win with just that.

The FOUNDATION of Miami football was (a) fantastic evaluations of talent, and strong recruiting ability; and (b) fast, pipe hittin mofos on défense. Combine that with good football minds and we can and will win. There is enough talent down here, but picking the right kids matters, as does coaching them up.

The fashion du jour is offensive scheme innovation. i think this is just as naive as ceo du jour or whatever we used to aim for. Our personality must remain aggressive, tough and fast on D, and press downfield on O. We are overreacting to an extent because we had a buffoon on offense the past couple years. There is a world of difference between incompetent and best in class.

This is not an argument against spread. I have no problem with offensive scheme innovators, IF they can evaluate and recruit. But it does matter how often your D is on the field, and what quality QB you have.

We need to be MIAMI - aggressive and rough and no apologies.
