IT WAS A GREAT RIDE!

In this case, we've got a guy @Earnest T. Bass who is upset about the current state of the program, but rather than place blame where it lies, e.g., UM administration, Board of Trustees (decision makers within the university who can actually effect change in the program) he blames fans on an internet message board for the direction of the football program. Likely, because an internet message board is his only outlet. He has no ability to voice his true concerns with real decision makers, so he projects his conscience on and against an internet message board.

@Earnest T. Bass it's ok. There are people you can talk to offline who can help you work through this. I hope you find the help you need.

Wishing you the same Georgie Boy! Notice you've included the number 84 in your screen name...would bet a freight-car load of Chiquita Bananas you can't count that high.

It is my suspicion Manny knew that sooner or later he would be shoved into the Herd's XYZ coach sucks barrel. He experienced this last season and most probably concluded his brand would be significantly diminished down-line if he even had one bad defensive game for the Canes.

I had hoped he would take a longer view believing over the next several years or so he would be the likely successor to Coach Richt. Also, I think that taking the Temple job is a significant risk to his head coaching future if he doesn't hit it out of the park. Having a cursory understanding of who surrounds and advises him my aforementioned concerns, amongst others, must have been considered. It appears his cost/benefit analysis came down to...get the **** out of Dodge while the gettin' is good!

You see this when a fan-base burns a football program to the ground in their quest to get a head coach fired. It has been proven time and again that the Herd becomes dispirited after a Canes win and inexplicably ecstatic after a loss. The number of posts immediately after the Canes beat Virginia Tech and then Pittsburgh (a get even game) were far lower than the posts following a Canes loss. Although, during the following days after those wins, the Herd attacks on Coach Richt intensified along with various facets of said games. The goal was to discredit those wins, thus discredit Coach Richt.

I have loved the Canes Football Program since the tender age of 8 years old, and as has been said by others in my station of life, I no longer buy green bananas. Yet, if I were a young, talented coach or for that matter a seasoned, successful coach not looking for a place to retire, based on the fact that the Canes Football Program has been hijacked by those not rational or knowledgeable enough to recognize the damage they have done, is currently doing and will almost certainly continue doing, I would not accept a job with the program under any circumstance. Miami Hurricanes football has become a place for football coaches futures to die.

Mark Richt will be the 5th head coach in a row (I count Butch Davis) that the Herd tore to shreds one time or another during their tenures with the Canes. Mark Richt will also be the 5th head coach to exit the program after learning that when you have a fan base who for 24 hours, 7 days a week publicly claim that every aspect of the Canes football program is pure garbage even while winning 10-straight games, winning the first ACC Coastal since joining the ACC and being picked to play in a major bowl. This little 'golden nugget of truth' will not be lost on other potential head coach hires (or defensive coordinators) knowing that in today's social media, which recruits heavily rely upon when deciding the school they are going to commit too, makes building an enduring, winning program an impossibility.

Now, this post will give the Herd members the joyous opportunity to post negative comments, insulting names, derogatory memes, online temper tantrums, downvotes, etc. directed at Coch Richt and yours truly. But, for those who stop to thoughtfully consider my words, I ask you to read those comments as they will bolster my case. Oh, before I forget, blaming Coach Richt for Manny's departure is convenient and follows the normal pattern around here, but is complete and utter nonsense!

As has been said; All things must come to an end, and in this case, it simply did not have to end this way.

I respectfully disagree with you.
I think you are blaming the fans for the failures of those coaches.

There is truth in the OP’s post. There isn’t one message board, there are at least 3 prominent ones. Plus there is Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube comment sections and article comments.

The this board has no influence would be true save for the cross pollination of posters who deal directly with recruits on their highlight clips and on their personal social media accounts.

I’ved In all parts of the Atlanta area for 12 years and having two gators as best friends. UF and UGA fans simply don’t have the scorched earth mentality out fans have.

That’s not to say that our putrid offensive performance doesn’t deserves some
Self reflection on he part of our head coach. Yes the we need to execute does sound just like Al Golden. Did Richt F up the QB situation? Yes he did. But we can win with Kayaa type numbers and Brad wasn’t a once in a generation QB
Haven’t read their boards, I see.

I do agree that social media has an affect on players and recruits.
It's easier for those guys to give up on a team if their perception is that the fans quit, IMO.

And no, i'm not saying it's the fan's fault we're in this position in the first place.

I agree that the fans did not originally put the program in a downward spiral. But, the unrelenting, brutal, despicable attacks on the program over the last decade has done incalculable damage to said program.

It is my belief that Mark Richt may resign not wanting to any longer subject his family to the lunacy known as the Miami Hurricanes Fan Base.

But, before the Herd starts gleefully patting one another on their curved backs for running off the 5th straight coach from the "U", they might consider who the next victim (head coach) will be. If they point to the ole "fertile recruiting grounds" or "wonderful weather" or the "Canes legacy", that is quickly fading in college football's rear view mirrors, then they are more foolish than I had thought.

It would be interesting, or better stated, hilarious, to learn who the Herd thinks will replace him, because a prudent and insightful prospective coach will look at the Canes past history and treatment of their coaches and most probably quickly conclude that even of they win every game the Herd will find a way to besmirch his efforts/results. ****, Larry Coker led the Canes to a National Championship only to have the usual suspects after the Canes eviscerated Nebraska go bat **** on Coker for not further running up the score.
@Earnest T. Bass Wikipedia is all we need to diagnose your schtick. Just search “projecting” it’s all there.

You inspired me to Google "empty-headed", and lo and behold the overview recommended; see George 84. Go figure!

This post reeks of estrogen.

Earnest, I to do not see the profit in the personal attacks on the coaches and in particular on Mark Richt. Many of the haters on this board often cross the line and think all they say will go unnoticed. In their minds, they are doing this for the good of the team, I, like you, cannot see how this helps the program.

With that said, I do not believe Mark Richt is a fool and knows this type of fan behavior was to be expected after a 5 loss season. After the way Golden was treated, we the fans certainly are not surprised. Richt knows that winning will quiet down the haters to the point they are barely noticed. They are out in full force now and will continue until the team turns things around.

It is up to Mark to start winning or the few that support him will abandon ship. I am rooting for him to turn things around.

Still waiting on the cliff notes version...

He's not completely wrong. This board is unreadable. I stopped posting on here a couple of months ago, only check in now for recruiting/coaching staff info but reading threads is pointless/disgusting. It's the same people that hate every hire unless it's their guy, and **** on everything about the program, running around saying they told us so because we had a bad season.

This notion that all fan bases are populated with ********, douchebags and losers like ours isn't true. All may have their outliers but ours is full of these types. Just click on any thread. Do you think Wisconsin's fans are calling for Chryst's job after a similarly poor season? Doubtful.

We will never have the success we want if we are flying banners and crying for everyone to be fired every 3 years.

I know this post will have zero impact on this board but just wanted to give my .2. Resume with your pitchforks and banners.

Go Canes
