I don't really think we are that deficient in coaching, schemes, talent, execution, etc. as the chicken littles here want to make me believe. I only see one (obvious) major problem, and two smaller problems - that cause everything else to look worse than it is.
First the minor things: 1) Egregiously bad officiating. Not gonna harp on this too much because we should be used to it and its never going away - we will always have to beat our opponents and the refs. But take away the usual ***** job we get from the zebras and the game is at least close. 2) The worst punter in UM history. A punter that was JUST AVERAGE and the subsequent effect on field position would have hugely changed the complexion of this game - again making it at least closer.
And the (DUH) major thing is Rosier. If he hits half of the receivers that he overthrows or misses running wide open, 1) drives would be sustained just by those plays in and of themselves, 2) the run game would open up, improving our offensive output, 3) field position wouldn't be tilted against us so badly, 4) the defense would be better rested, needing less help from weak backups. If he was even mildly accurate, suddenly the offensive scheme doesn't look so bad, the defensive scheme doesn't look so bad. Every facet of the game suffers, and every unit and coach looks worse than they are when they are handicapped by a quarterback that can't move the offense and sustain drives with wide open receivers.
The only thing I really fault Richt with is a) not having the balls to change quarterbacks, or if balls isn't the problem b) not recruiting or coaching up a QB good enough to unseat Rosier.
The O-line is GOOD ENOUGH. The first team Defense and scheme are GOOD ENOUGH. Put a semi-competent QB under center and we are all crowing instead of crying today.
