Is this the biggest game(Pitt) of Mario's Miami tenure?

it's a moving target

we didn't know it last year but Syracuse was the biggest game and we lost

we thought ND was the biggest game of his tenure (turns out it didnt even matter lmao)

if we win and somehow get in then yes this is the biggest game

if we win and get left out of the playoffs then Syracuse last year still had more stakes on the line as that was true win-and-in

That’s why you need to coach like every single game is the biggest game. You know, instead of playing conservative not to lose because supure up just 1 or 2 TDs.

So I was asked if this was the biggest game of Mario Cristobal's coaching career by a few people over social media. It's an interesting question. My view is that it's certainly the biggest of this season (thus far). And I hope there are more 'big/bigger' games in this 25 season. But some of that is outside of UM's control. My view is that regardless of the result of the Pitt game Cristobal is doing a really good job of elevating the floor of the program and moving it forward.

But I do think this should be addressed before the game tomorrow because results can lead to emotional responses that you may regret, or cloud your perspective. Overall, I really like Cristobal and the job he's doing at Miami. I'm a staunch advocate of his, believe it or not. I want this to work with him because of his ties with Miami. At the same time, his overall approach to games and managing them is something I'll never completely agree with. But he's the coach, I'm just a fan with an opinion

My view is this, regardless of how this season ends -- even if it's a national title or deep playoff run -- that SMU defeat has to be one that Cristobal and the staff examine during the off-season and make sure that never happens again, I have a theory that every coach has a game/loss that haunts them -- but they learn and get better from it. For the great Jimmy Johnson it was the 1987 Fiesta Bowl. (He still hasn't truly gotten over that defeat to this day.)

With that said, Cristobal has really upgraded the talent level of this program, which was reflected in last years NFL Draft and subsequent ones. Tomorrow may or may not be the last game in the Miami careers of Ruben Bain and Francis Mauigoa. But those guys to me symbolize the raised floor Cristobal has achieved with this program. And this years freshman class has been excellent.

So yeah, tomorrow vs PItt is a big one. But it's not really the end-all and be-all. Narratives can change very quickly in this thing.
Fair analysis
I agree w a lot of it as
Meathead has turned this program around and upped the talent level
Game day and prep is pitiful tbh

THIS is his biggest
Game at Miami!!!!

Meathead needs to show he can game plan and prepare a team that executes when it has too v a decent opponent on the road late in year!!!!

Get it done Meathead!!!!!!!

Did anyone else notice Kirby Smart playing Mario ball against Tech today? My point is as much as MANY posters ***** about Mario EVERY CHANCE THEY GET, he is playing football the way the many of the best coaches in college football do it. It just hasn't worked out all the time.

The Vegas O/U for wins when I bought it was 8.5. We are doing well. Beat Pitt....
Imagine trying to use Mike ******* Bobo to attempt to justify ****** offensive decision making.

@bdcane4eva we got some goalposts that need moving.

I will say this, the difference between winning against pitt vs losing is huge in terms of not only the season but the trajectory of the program IMO. This would be another very bad loss if we can't win.

I am expecting miami to play well and win tomorrow. Go canes!

it should never take 'losses' to create change. That's like the Titanic changing course AFTER hitting the iceberg
Tomorrow will be a microscope on Mario to see if he has really learned the lesson. Pitt is a team with a pulse and if we play the bull**** conservative bleed the clock and jam up the gut he is never changing. You’ve said it a million times establish points. If they are going into this game thinking they have a plan to control it I’ll lose my mind. Get the O rolling and don’t let up.

A lot of revisionist history on the thread... Our defense was atrocious last season and, even if we beat Syracuse, we were not a championship team.

We've had bigger games this season but the stakes for tomorrow's game are obviously very high, and we have the expectation of being the better team.

This group has been inconsistent despite being more complete than last season's squad, but they're good enough to say we'll go as far as our QB takes us. Beck is built for a game like this and I hope Dawson can keep him comfortable. I wish we had one less loss, but from a roster-construction standpoint Mario did his part.

Let just do something different at end of season games like this. Play focused be physical play with no remorse .

PITT is betting we’ll beat ourselves in this one.

It’s our choice, we will see early on .

Syracuse was bigger, we controlled our own destiny with that game, and was a lock for the playoffs, win or lose in the ACCCG. This time we already have our 2nd loss and need help. I'd venture to say, if we beat SMU, it would be a completely different story.

Last year Syracuse game was the biggest. Win and your in. Miami can win today and still not get in. Come on V Tech and Wake help us out. But either way todays is huge.

Auburn beating Bama is a lot more important than VT and Wake.

The most ideal situation is to get into the playoffs without having to play another game/get beat up/risk injury.

War **** Eagle. (Also Go Tiguhs and whatever the **** Washington says)

Its always the biggest game of his career........until the next one. We win vs Pitt and sneak into playoff then round 1 will have the exact same discourse cuz the media and even some here on CIS will question if we deserve to be there at all.
We make it to the playoffs and everything else will be gravy. However, with Texas beating A&M last night, idk if it even matters if we beat Pitt now (from a playoff perspective).

I need a win vs Pitt and Texas to jump ND. ND shouldn’t be IN and we’re OUT when we have the H2H win with similar resumes and the same record.

IMO this will make the committee decision easy now - because they can justify moving Texas to 10 and ND to 11….but they couldn’t justify having ND in and Miami out.

No. Miami was never winning the championship this year. Vegas had over/under total wins at 9.5 if I remember correctly.

Miami is right where they were expected to be.

Agreed the SMU is the one that hurt the most no matter how it all shakes out. Miami was clearly better than the and the let the refs/playcalling lose them the game.

Miami is in a good spot moving clears stacking talent and will have a shot every year Mario is here. Have to hope the luck breaks Mario’s way one year to get a championship.
The elephant in the room is that if we end up 10-2, it won’t be a team that you would say got there by out playing and out coaching its way to that record. It will be a team that crapped the bed and left what could have been on the table. That’s a very different scenario to the same outcome. It’s a different feeling as well. Mario raised the bar in recruiting, but wasted it in coaching. It’s just a different level of the same disappointment for a fan base that lives in disappointment . We now have to have lightning strike and find a year we don’t beat ourselves. The enemy within.

We could win by 21 and end up in Pop Tarts Bowl. So no.

We could lose, win a bowl game, sign a great portal QB be right back in the playoff mix next season.

The labels people try to put on games is just funny. Ohio State fans must win vs. Michigan last season got embarrased only to hoist the trophy a month and a half later.

Miami fans "must win" against Cuse, only to have programs best ranked win in decade plus the very next regular season game.

Every year is different.

Miami could grab Sellers this offseason, and be a top 4 team next season regardless what happens today.
