Is this the biggest game(Pitt) of Mario's Miami tenure?

And in terms of adapting and learning from a game as @k9cane, Mario has had numerous games that he coulda, woulda, shoulda done that... so to go through an entire season failing to adapt on defense to then fail to adapt on offense the next year is why he is referred to as a "meathead" or "broball"

Good coaches adapt, great coaches adapt during the game -- Mario, we are lucky if he adapts positively during a season or off-season.

He gets no extra cookie for beating a Pitt team we should beat. We are the better team. Don't get outcoached by The Narduzzi.

it should never take 'losses' to create change. That's like the Titanic changing course AFTER hitting the iceberg

My view is this, regardless of how this season ends -- even if it's a national title or deep playoff run -- that SMU defeat has to be one that Cristobal and the staff examine during the off-season and make sure that never happens again, I have a theory that every coach has a game/loss that haunts them -- but they learn and get better from it. For the great Jimmy Johnson it was the 1987 Fiesta Bowl. (He still hasn't truly gotten over that defeat to this day.)

With that said, Cristobal has really upgraded the talent level of this program, which was reflected in last years NFL Draft and subsequent ones. Tomorrow may or may not be the last game in the Miami careers of Ruben Bain and Francis Mauigoa. But those guys to me symbolize the raised floor Cristobal has achieved with this program. And this years freshman class has been excellent.

So yeah, tomorrow vs PItt is a big one. But it's not really the end-all and be-all. Narratives can change very quickly in this thing.

@k9cane you said it before this season. The expectation isn’t for Miami to make the playoff, it’s to make the playoff and have a little bit of a run. If we win tomorrow, that can still happen. If we don’t, fire up the toaster.

If he wins, it puts pressure on the committee
BUT its in their hands

If he loses, it proves to SO MANY, that we just dont belong
For foreseeable future, a mario team will NOT get the benefit of the doubt. Reducing any margin for error to literally NIL

We need this win for so many reasons. Obviously we want to keep ACCCG hopes in play with help and also praying we make the playoff. I also think that a win here and having a 4-1 November will help in the future with the optics for the committee. Win tomorrow and it's the first step in changing the whole "Miami always loses late" narrative. But what do I know? lol

In terms of how important Pitt is for the rest of this season, there's no comparison, Cuse was a bigger game cause it was win and we were in the playoff.

However, Pitt is a much bigger game than Cuse last year for the future of the progrum under Mario. Win, and despite the 2 bad losses and probably missing the playoff, I can still buy that he can get us to where we want the progrum to be in the next few years. Lose, after losing the two games we lost this year (and losing to Cuse last year), then I won't be able to buy that anymore and it will be a long, long off-season.
 
Nah. I'm fully convinced we won't make the Top 12 regardless of the outcome.

But that's purely because I hate the committee.

He's repeatedly corrected course.

Dude is a statue on the sidelines on Saturdays because he's completely handed the reigns over to his Co-ordinators. He's clearly fully committed to being a recruiting CEO HC like we asked for.

He gets blamed for loads of stuff out of his control imo. He's not perfect, but he's a **** sight better than the 3 guys that came before him.

The guys that came before him should not be the standard of Miami. They all failed. He clearly sets the tone for the team -- which for most of the season has been conservative, clenched ****, coach not to lose, limit possessions -- so he (and Mirabal) is not fully committed to being a recruiting CEO HC.

Did anyone else notice Kirby Smart playing Mario ball against Tech today? My point is as much as MANY posters ***** about Mario EVERY CHANCE THEY GET, he is playing football the way the many of the best coaches in college football do it. It just hasn't worked out all the time.

The Vegas O/U for wins when I bought it was 8.5. We are doing well. Beat Pitt....
