Is there gonna be an "open" QB competition?

Everyone knows King will be the starter day one. That’s not the point.

First, the coaches are going to say this is a competition, because that’s what coaches say, even if they don’t actually believe it.

They may say that for the first couple weeks of spring practice. Of course all the dumbasses here will be freaking out. Everybody knows King is the starter.

But you also got to get a couple of other guys some legit work. Because he could blow out his knee, God forbid. Or could have some other type of injury.

Irrespective of the fact that I don’t think Manny is a good coach, they’re not here to placate message board heroes about when a starter should be named.

If I was shlthead, I would be planning to start King, of course, that’s a no brainer, but also try to keep at least one veteran happy if King goes down.

I have no idea what Matocha can do, he may be another Spencer Whipple for all we know, and TVD is true freshman (enough said). Also, I think the verdict is in on Tate and his fanboys, and the verdict is, he can’t throw. So who does that leave?

Nah i don’t care about the other guys besides PM and TVD if I’m Lashlee I’ve seen what they can do they stink i got my guy.... why bring King in if you think you can work with them? Manny tried that last year and it didn’t work i don’t wanna see “open competition “ during bowl week lol nah King day one starter and everybody else fighting for 2-3 so If the older guys want to leave bounce. We went 6-7 with a guy who was suppose to be the future i hope i don’t see 15 in the future at QB for UM ever...EVER EVER again.
You just don't understand the process. I'll leave it at that.

LOL@ respect of the locker room. Look I love these kids but if he is looking to gain the respect of a bunch of kids that went 6-7 while losing to FIU and getting beat by La Tech 14-0.. then hes not who I thought he was. THEY need to earn HIS respect.

This isn't 2003 anymore where Brock Berlin was coming on a team that just came out of getting screwed out of back to back national titles and he DID have to prove himself to that locker room. These kids don't even know how to win. Anyone who is going into their Jr year on this team has a 13-13 record as a Cane and will forever have the stain of losing to FIU on their Cane resume. **** that respect crap. Earn respect by showing these kids how to win and doing that starting from day 1 as the proclaimed leader and day 1 starter.
It doesn't matter who you are. You have to go out and prove it. If King is everything we hope he is, then proving it on Greentree should be a formality.

My only concern if any, is that his team was 1-3 last year when he was at QB and he didn't look that good against Oklahoma where he was 14-27. Does his numbers against non P-5 schools transfer against a mostly P-5 schedule? That's the only question. By all accounts they should.

Tate took weeks off to hang with his girl. He needs to become Braxton B 2.0 or seek shelter elsewhere.

Da Kang, TVD, Matocha & Perry for me. And I would probably make Perry 3rd/4th team because he still can’t lead the room or prepare worth a fugg. It’s alarming to me that he wasn’t anointed given all of JW’s reported issues. Means he’s gotta be just as bad.

If I’m Manure, and the multiple attempts to quit are true, not showing up to practice is true, being a weed head is true, not studying 🎞 is true, I would take Jarren off scholarship after spring ball if he didn’t show a 299% improvement in his commitment/habits. Force the issue. His name has been soiled. Put the burden on him. Dude has top 4 round skills with a “Welcome to Arby’s” mindset.

“You’re either with us or against us. You will decide based on what you do. If it isn’t Championship level - we will part ways.” Deuces.

You can live in fantasy land or you can be realistic.

Reality says the ONLY reason a kid in King's situation commits to a program who didn't exactly have a stellar year the prior year, in his ONE remaining year of eligibility, is if promises were made and the job is his unless he absolutely face plants.

And I'm not saying it with a negative connotation. It's Manny's job to save his own *** and win games and King is clearly better than either of our current options (although I still think there is hope for Perry).

King was 100% promised the starting job during his courtship with Miami. I have no inside info and am speculating but I'd be willing to bet money on it. It's the reality of the situation for both sides given the convenience of the timing involved. King gets his one year to show out at a P5 school with an easy schedule, and Miami gets a 1 year bridge to hopefully prepare TVD for the job.
The exact sentence they used during his recruitment was: "You have to beat out Perry, Martell and Williams". Which translates as "The job is yours".

Of Tate Martell and N'Kosi Perry, Lashlee says "I told them `Hey, it's a fresh slate. So far they've been great, their attitudes have been great, they're working hard. ... I think they're excited to get their feet wet and see what they can do (in the spread offense)."

Nobody is given the job. King will have to win the job to earn the respect of his teammates. Jalen Hurts had to earn the job when he went to Oklahoma. He had a close battle that went down to the wire, but obviously won it.

The same is true for King. He has to prove he's the guy. If he performs head and shoulders better than everyone else then he'll be namef the starter earlier in the process.

Hurts rolled in and the Rattler kid was there.....King rolled in and.........well nobody was really there.....
