Is Stanford Actually Good?

The answer is absolutely not. They are the worst team on the schedule outside of Bethune. That said, after Friday, let's just say that I am really glad this game is at home and not in Palo Alto.

I watched the game against FSU because I was already numb and completely dead inside and I actually like the freshman running back, Tabb, but he is also really small. I also like the wide receiver, CJ Williams, he isn't a gamebreaker but he can play.

But that is pretty much it on either side of the ball. I want to say that this is the perfect opportunity to install some new wrinkles to the run game and maybe work in some other skill position guys, but I can't even be that confident anymore.

This absolutely HAS to be a stress-free get right game. Stanford is coming across the country, they'll probably be starting the backup, Elijah Brown, and they do not have a defensive lineman who weighs even 300 pounds.

Please do not make me have a heart attack next weekend, Mario!

Brother, I was where you are two years ago. Cam masked everything for a season.

But I too was hopeful that coaches would realize their run scheme is not good at all and holding the team back and that they would install new running plays, at least to change it up.

I only say this to help, but drop that novel concept from your mind now. It wont happen. The only thing that will happen is Mario will think we need more helmets on the line of scrimmage and need to try harder.

The absolutely hilarious aspect of that last paragraph is the fact that it's 100% true.

Honestly, brother, I would just go ahead and put your cardiologist on notice

It’s hard to have a rational take on this game after Friday, but as poorly as we played we still should have at least been able to tie it up.
Bottom line is how does the team respond, it’ll be a small, listless crowd against a team everyone thinks we should beat.
And another stupid night game, if we’re in a struggle we could be watching a death spiral.

Don’t do it to yourselves. It will be a dog fight because we don’t believe in putting ourselves in a position to win easily. It will be Stanfords Super Bowl. We’ll be flat coming off the loss.

Whoever referenced Stanford not having 300lb defensive linemen, I don’t think Louisville did either. Don’t really need it when you run 5 into 6 or 7 with 2 more safeties crashing down. Stanfords coaches are probably smarter than ours and will see on film that when we run the ball it’s in the A gap until we need to throw the ball on obvious passing downs to either Toney or Daniels.

Stanford will be fired up.

The end of that game was wild. Went to a review - Stanford won in a literal goal line stand.

Stanfords DT are actually good. Not elite but good. If there ever was a game to run outside zone, jet sweeps, and counters, this would be the one. If all they do is run outside 1/4 of the time, we likely get enough yards to have someone finally question Mario on why they don’t run it more.

Oh yeah, we also win.

Now if they play bro ball and force Beck to win the game with lots of 3rd and longs, it will be interesting but we still win.

This is where we see where we really are…

I expect us to throttle Stanford, we should be angry and vindictive against the next team after a loss. If we do that à la what Oregon did to Rutgers. This MUST happen as the next step. Anything less tells me the barometer to “back” is not where we need it to be.

Mario and Co will do everything they can to keep it close
I want to disagree with your statement, but I can’t. Earlier in the season, I would have thought this would be our only other blow-out game, Bethune Cookman obviously being the first one.

Our offense has regressed so bad, especially in the run game, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a 10-13 point game. Starters are in until the final snap since we couldn’t close out the game in the 3rd qtr. Hope I’m wrong.
