Is FSU Actually Good?

I think FSUs first possession is very important to them. They almost have to score. Think about it if we receive likely a long 5-8 minute drive. They don’t want to give us the ball down 7 with 5 or less minutes to go in the 1st. Conversely if they receive and don’t score we likely will have an opportunity to do what we did to ND and close out the 2nd and open the 3rd with time consuming drives.

All of this except they need to do it against Virginia.

Alabama gave up 414 total yds vs Vandy last year, they gave up 382 against FSU. So not exactly a scary performance by FSU TBH. Alabama was actually way closer to FSU than the score indicates. They just played a terrible game. Let's see what FSU does tomorrow. I suspect Gus will score some points, a lot of these teams will have a hard time dealing with the speed he's brought in. I think that offense will be feast or famine moving forward the rest of the year.

Line just ticked down to -6.5 for Friday night, as I expected. Don't be shocked to see it at 6 before kickoff.

Chandler Morris is very, very capable and will not be afraid. Dude is like 33 years old, and can really move. Very, very good passer and can beat you with his feet, too. They're going to get 30+ on FSU.
I bet the over 59.5

Malzahn and Duce Robinson are good.

Norvell has a decent portal eval history, he grabbed Verse and Fiske, so he might have found a guy or two that no one is checking for yet.

FSU is excited about Castellanos having good deep ball stats so far, would like to see that against Virginia and not the Savannah Bananas before I buy the Castellanos passing improvement narrative.

Don’t be surprised if fsu smokes uva and not because fsu is that good. Virginia is not good and their defense is legit terrible. UVA offense has good numbers but has played nobody, lot of empty stats. Same could be said for fsu’s offense aside from bama.

No offense to you but this is one of the dumbest takes fans make about FSU. Do people not realize should FSU beat UVA, the winner of Miami/FSU game most likely ends up in Charlotte vs GT? Give me UVA giving FSU an additional ACC loss to help our chances to the ACC ship game. That’s what truly matters. Not beating a fake top 10 team.
If your goal is getting to the ACC ship game, you're right. But, my sites are set much further. We need to repair our imagine of 20 years of garbage. Playing in a huge undefeated vs undefeated rivalry matchup on prime time and smashing them there, does way more for our image than having a cleaner path the ACC championship. Our goal is to create another dynansty like the one I grew up watching, not getting to the ACC championship. Getting there doesn't help us beat Oregon, OSU, Bama and Georgia in recruiting battles for the top prospects, but smashing our main rival while they're undefeated with millions viewing will.

I don't agree. Our offense has a different style from last year. We're eating up a lot of clock. That is good in that you throw body blows and wear down teams, but you also minimize possessions, which means that you don't necessarily separate away from teams. We saw this against UF. We were up 13-0 despite total domination but they got 1 score and had the ball; a TD or fluke play and they're up despite being dominated.

/Still think we're gonna whoop 'em.

I believe they are a good offense for their scheme. Thats pretty clear – hard to put up the number of points they have and argue against that. To add, this is a primarily run-based offense that still scores the amount of points that they do. It's impressive, idc who they've played. Now, what happens when they game an elite run stopping defense? Can they throw consistently? Can they bring some semblance of balance to the offense? Castellanos has thrown the ball 38 times this year. For reference, Beck threw the ball 30 times in Saturday's game alone and 112 times on the year so far.

Are we an elite run stopping defense? Metrics say yes. But, a few of those sweeps UF ran on Saturday night had people holding their breath. What does our perimeter run defense look like against FSU? That's where we either get beat or we force them to throw and likely gain and maintain the edge.

Hard to tell at this time what that looks like for us. Need the LB's to pass protect against wheels, flats, etc and they need to set the edge on perimeter run defense. I think this will be one of the best games of the year, and possibly one of the best in the history of the rivalry.

Best in the history of the rivalry? That’s a very bold statement.

The jet sweep motions and fluff is FSUs MO. There’s nothing gimmicky about the way UM winning. All that **** cute until you line up and the best DEs in America are on the other side. Until you gotta stop a 230lb RB with a top 5 OL in America for 4 quarters.

This team built the right way. We’re built like 23 Michigan, like 21 UGA. You’re gonna need depth and you’re gonna need 4 quarters of conditioning.

Only way a team that’s not DOMINANT in the trenches beats Miami is by self destruction (10+ penalties, 2+ turnovers) which is why Dawson calling the offense he’s calling.

Get to the ACC ship game and it practically guarantees you in the playoff and all those recruits. FSU beats us next Saturday and it will take a miracle for us to make the championship unless they lose to UVA and another ACC team. **** our perception. Win the conference and make the playoffs.

Go Hoos!
