Is Coley following a trend

I Know that Coley is struggling this season. But his season so far brings back flashbacks of Sammy Watkins and Amiri Cooper. The two of them like Coley had amazing freshman season and it seemed like everything was going their way. But during their sophomore year Watkins and Cooper struggled just like Coley is doing. I'm starting to think that this is a trend that happens to really good young receivers during their sophomore year. Let's hope that Stacy continues to follow Cooper and Watkins footsteps because then next year could be SPECIAL for him.

It's called a sophomore slump, and Coley just seems very timid. He also seems sort of disengaged from the rest of the guys on the team this season.

Here's the ******* problem with these comparisons.

Stacy Coley through 8 games has 12 catches for 72 yards and 0 TDs and has looked horrible in the return game.

Sammy Watkins during his Sophomore season had 57 catches for 708 yards and 3 TDs.

Amari Cooper during his Sophomore season had 45 catches for 736 yards and 4 TDs.

During their "sophomore slump" Cooper and Watkins were still making catches and gaining yards. Their sophomore seasons were drop offs from their freshman seasons but they were still solid seasons for both. Stacy Coley has completely fallen off of the ******* map and looks completely horrible in all phases. He looks confused and timid on the field. Have our coaches done the best jobs in finding ways to get him the ball in open space down the field? Absolutely not but there should have been a point in the first 8 games where a light went off in Coley's head and he just started fighting to get open on the field. He hasn't and isn't. It's a shame and a complete waste of a season, and if he doesn't start righting the ship it will not just be a waste of a season but a waste of a career.

They need to take him off of returns...he is running scared. That hit in Loserville has screwed him up. And dont compare him to Watkins or Cooper. When Coley can run a decent route and get open then you can think about comparing him to those 2. He is only good for bubble screens and running straight down field.

His head was in it until he got cracked by Burgess in the Louisville game.

If you want to be a Reggie Wayne type build, do not return kicks or punts. If you want to be like Hester, put some ******* weight on.

When Dorsett caught that pass along the sideline in the v.t game that took him to a knee. Coley was wide open on the post route coming from the same side. It was 6. But I don't even know if he would have caught the **** thing.

I was just about to bring that play up.. Coley was open of a TD on that play but Kaaya missed him.
Which brings me to my point.. I think Coley's slump has a lot to do with Kaaya. They just don't seem to be on the same page.
Hope Kaaya sees the film and is kicking himself for missing him on that play and makes more of a concentrated effort to start targeting Coley some on passes other than bubble screens.

Kaaya is a great QB, but he misses a lot of throws. I imagine he will improve a ton next year with this. In the VT game, Dorsett and Coley were wide open on multiple plays. I suspect the coaches have told him to take the safe throws, and that is what he is doing.....nothing wrong with that.

Last year our QB could only really make 1 pass - the long ball, which suited Coley fine.

Kind of reminds me of Mike Wallace with the Dolphins.

The coaches knew the quality of db's for VT, they chose to run it down their throats and not take risks with throwing into their secondary.

Coley has to hit the weight room and add to his game. Also Walkins and Cooper had more serious injuries there sophomore years.

Coaches aren't putting him in a position to succeed. Granted he has dropped balls so much blame falls on him too. But he's barely out there and when he is it's catching bubble screens

Stacy averaged 3 catches a game last year --- the only trend is that he is another kids that shows flashes and we think he is the next greta one - right now JAG
