Is clemson 2018 team the best team ever?

Lets say reed moves on to the NFL year prior. ( had to add year prior cause this guy Polly come sback with some bs etc.)...taylor starts is the point.

I mean dam. When your back is a future all American it speaks to the depth of the team.

Ding ding..... hello?

As a true freshman, yes. being a future AA doesn’t make him better as a true freshman, that’s the point

I’m fine with disagreeing but who’s the greatest college qb or player ever? With your rationale, youd have to take into account their nfl career to decide, which makes no sense. So Tom Brady would be the greatest college qb of all time or....

Team vs Individual is a completely different type of argument. Both are subjective in nature and impossible to answer conclusively unless an agreed upon set of rules is engaged. Do we use statistics? Not a great choice as rules change as do offensive philosophies. Do we use championships? Probably more fair in judging teams than individuals. Do we use All Conference or All American Honors? **** NO! Those are glorified beauty contests and ultimately meaningless except to those who win such honors. Do we hire some geek to come up with a new metric? I'm not crazy about that idea seeing as how I have no clue how WAR is determined in baseball and how I know the concept behind QBR but not the intricacies. So what are we left with? In talking about great college TEAMS, the only thing I see that has any objectivity is the number and quality of professionals that were on said team. In talking about the greatest player of all time, IMHO there isn't one. Never has been and never will be. You can make a solid argument for too many of them based on their college achievements.

He would have gotten better faster had he played is my point. The fact that you have a future AA as a back speaks volumes for your depth and the strength of your team. Not real hard to understand

How are pro bowls different than all conference and all Americans? Pro bowls are voted on by coaches players and fans so just as much of a beauty contest as college honors. There is very little debate about HOF, so while subjective it’s usually hard to argue they get it wrong.

The difference is that the number of Pro Bowls is culled from a VERY large sample size. It is now 18 years after the 2001 Canes season and it is still theoretically possible that Frank Gore could go to another Pro Bowl. Unlikely but theoretically possible. 18 years is an eternity in Pro Football in terms of building a sample size. The bigger the sample size, the more reliable the outcome. For example, given the benefit of a small sample size, even straight up bums like Trent Dilfer and Vince Young can make a Pro Bowl. The list of bums who have made multiple Pro Bowls gets progressively smaller with each additional Pro Bowl. As a result, that total of 46 MEANS SOMETHING. The 95 Nebraska team that some people like to bring up had a total of 7 Pro Bowls on its roster. That is a HUGE and statistically significant difference.

So this future All American was playing Special Teams on the 2001 team and he was a BEAST. Basically a high level starter caliber player knocking fools out on Special Teams. That is HUGE. Taylor, Antrel Rolle and Kellen Winslow were all ST Monsters on that team even though they weren't yet starters. This is where the value of depth comes in.

Why is the best college football team of all time dependent on the players nfl careers? That has little if anything to do with it. I would take Texas Vince young over college Eli, Peyton, brees, etc. having a forgettable nfl career doesn’t diminish how good he was at Texas and having a great nfl career doesn’t make what you did in college any more impressive

I never said I judged any one college player by how good he was in the pros.

One major component in judging how good a team is the amount of talent they have.
It has a lot to do with it if more than half of the team is NFL all-pro caliber.

Even more of an indication of the talent depth on that team.

Any team in the running to be considered a "best ever" must have both an all-time great head coach and an all-time great quarterback. Clemson 2018 had both, so they deserve to be considered in that class of teams.

I’ve been hearing a lot of people saying that clemson May have had the best team ever.

Ask the question in ten years when you can see how everyone did in the league.

'01 Canes had at least 2 and possibly 4 NFL Hall of Famers, in addition to 17 first-round draft picks and countless Pro Bowls.

There are very, very few teams that can claim such things.
Very few as in zero

Dey almost lost to Texas am. But other then that they were on 01 canes level.

Look at what the Canes did at the end of 01 to highly ranked Washington and Syracuse. Complete obliteration. They then went into the National Title game and beat the **** out of Nebraska for a half before putting it on cruise control.

95 Tommy Frasier is nowhere near 01 Canes, why ? Easy, they were one dimensional, 01 Canes would have done about the same thing they did to one dimensional Eric Crouch Nebraska. That 01 team had no weakness, all 3 phases were insane good, and also the 2 deep. This game would not even be close, TF could not throw the ball downfield, shut down that bullshyt option and their done, how many times have we done this to these so called hi power offenses. OU w Holloway, Neb multiple times, Osborn even came out and said he was gonna have to rethink his offense because we embarrassed that *** what 3 times in a row. 95 Neb is not in consideration for goatness

Lmao Washington and Syracuse? They suck. 18 bama is better than all those trash teams 01 canes faced except FSU. Lmdo! Washington &cuse😂

They were top 10 teams champ and if I remember correctly they scored maybe 10 pts combined.

Imo Clemson 2018 had a harder schedule. Texas am usce Notre Dame and bama. I still think 01 canes would win a head to head match up but Lawrence would be hard to stop
